Hello! My boyfriend and I just got back from viewing the most beautiful little doodle puppies, I wish I could have taken one home today! We are getting our little brown baby boy on the 16th of August and are so so so excited. We are having trouble with names though, he wants to call him Murdoch (He is a bit of an A-Team fan!) and I like Rufus, Reily, Mungo and Patrick. It is so hard deciding!!
I am a bit disappointed at the negative attitude which I have had from some of my friends about getting a doodle. I'm not getting him because I want a 'designer dog,' which is what everyone who doesn't know seems to name them. I am getting one because after doing lots of research, and having worked in a veterinary hospital, I have decided that doodles are right for me, my boyfriend and our extended family of other animals (cairn terrier, maine coon cat and a moggie!) They seem like such lovely dogs, and although I am aware that they are fairly expensive for cross breeds, surely the price can be justified if I have a healthy happy dog for the next 14 years? It makes me so cross that people jump to conclusions and assume that I am buying him for all the wrong reasons! There appears to be some assumption that people who breed hybrids are unprofessional, but the home that I visited today could not have been a more loving, puppy friendly environment, so people are wrong! Also, just because a dog is pedigree and is kennel club registered, does not ensure that the dog is healthy or happy, and there is nothing to say that the dog you actually recieve is the dog which is named on the pedigree certificates anyway! Sorry....rant over, but I was hoping to get some support from people who feel the same as I do and may have experienced the same hostility! Anyway, I just thought I would say hello and share the news about my little baby! I wish I had a picture that I could upload but I didn't take my camera, he is perfect though! Charley xx |

Congratulations~ I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your new baby. As far as negative remarks about getting a labradoodle- just ignore them, some people don't have a clue. My husband and I spent a lot of time researching breeds before we got our doodle, and we saw so many problems caused by inbreeding among AKC registered dogs, that we decided a hybrid would give us a better chance at having a healthy dog, besides that- they are the coolest dogs in the world, they have a personality unlike any other dog I have ever seen

Hello!
Thankyou so much for your replies! You are right, I should ignore the negativity, it is just a little bit frustrating to face such a response before we have even brought the little thing home, especially from people who are supposd to be friends, but oh well, all I can hope is that when they meet the little fella, they will fall in love with him, which is bound to happen because he is absolutely gorgeous! Well I say he, we really couldn't decide which puppy we wanted last night, and there are four boys, so we are going back next week to decide, as we are hoping that their personalities will have developed a bit more by then and so it will hopefully make our decision a bit easier! I highly doubt it though, part of me is hoping that the other three get picked before then, and that we are given the one that is left as I have no idea how to make the decision! With my other dog, he was the last one left in the litter, so he was meant for us (and it was a perfect match so that worked very well!) and the dog I had before that was a rescue greyhound, and the shelter picked her out for us, though sadly she passed away two years ago. I am so excited it is unreal! And my boyfriend is skipping around the house like a small child! It is his first dog, (although since we moved in together he has adopted my cairn Terrier, Teddy as his own and they are inseperable!) so he has never been through the joys (and sometimes terrors!) of having a puppy before. I am looking forward to uploading some pictures and starting a 'Name the puppy' thread, that sounds like a very good idea! Being on here and hearing everyone else talk about their doodles is making me very jealous and I wish I had my puppy now! Although it seems like there is so much to do before we get him, so many things to buy and preparations to make, eeeeek....it is so exciting! I just hope I am right in thinking that my little clan of furry friends will take to him as much as Mark and I did. I am convinced that Teddy will love him, he is such a friendly, happy dog, and he is only two, so he still wants to play all the time, and sometimes I think he would prefer a canine companion rather than a human one to play with, so fingers crossed! Anyway, talking about Teddy, the little fella is looking at me with an expectant dazzle in his eye, so I must go and take him for a walk! Bye for now, Charley xx |

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about the attitude you are getting, but as soon as they meet your puppy doodles usually win people over. Its funny that people are so stuck up about AKC recognised breeds. Unless they actually show dogs, I leave those people alone, then what does it matter. If your not showing, then you dont need papers, and the imporant issues are health and temperment of your puppy, both of those things are negatively affected by inbreeding, line breeding, breeding for conformation as a 1st priority, smaller gene pool, etc... All things true about purebred dogs and combatted by responsible knowledgable doodle breeders. Congrtats on choosing a great dog.

Haha, I'm very taken with Patrick too! Unfortunately though, my boyfriend is not quite so keen, at the moment our joint favourites are Rufus and Reily...it's sooooo hard to choose though!
Don't worry, my boyfriend doesn't go anywhere without his camera in his hand, so there will definitely be lots of pictures for me to upload...if I can work out how to do it! Eeeek....hurry up the 16th! |

Well my boyfriend did a facebook survey, and the general consensus is that the puppy should be called Murdoch (from the A-team!) i'm not sure whether I like this or not, I guess I will have to get to know the puppy a bit better first and see what suits it.... gosh i'm glad I don't have children yet, if it is this hard naming a puppy then it must be even worse naming a child!

Hi, welcome!
You could call him Rufus Murdoch! Lots of my dogs have two names ...that morph into 3 or 4 names...and they answser to them all. Don't let "the clueless" bother you....they will come around once they meet your baby. They may never admit it, however. When we moved here, our neighbor was introducing herself and she introduced her 3 dogs (AKC show dogs, of course) and I told her I was a breeder..."what type of breed?" and when I said Labradoodle, she shivered and scrunched up her face...and I said, "we donate them as service dogs..." and there wasn't much she could say after that...hahaha...but after we had been here a couple of months...she said, "Your dogs are really cute, aren't they? The just sit there and watch us and I just love their faces!" For those who don't understand, you just want to change the subject and say, "Did I tell you that the sweater you are wearing is not a good color on you? It really doesn't go with you complexion...speaking of your complexion, have you ever considered dying your hair?" hahahaha Enjoy your excitment and your new puppy! We are thrilled that you have joined us! Can't wait to see your new addition...no matter what you name him! |

Welcome and Congratulations!!! I know what you mean by clueless people! I live in a state that I have only found 2 people that will admit to having a labradoodle! I know that there are doodles here because I got my Tia here! Anyway I am so excited that there will be another puppy to watch grow and to hear all about how he changes and the funny things he does!
