Default Tyke's Christmas Trip to the Biltmore Estate

Mom and Tyke and I just got back from our annual "pilgrimage" to the Biltmore Estate. We go several times a year, but it's just not Christmas until we make a special winter trip up there! Unfortunately, although it was very cold, Tyke didn't get to see her first snowfall, but she had fun anyway! We stayed in a very pet friendly hotel, with an equally pet-friendly Waffle House just down the hill!! (They fixed Tyke her very own scrambled egg every day!) Here are a few pictures from our trip!

The view from our hotel - Mt. Pisgah is in the far background

Tyke "chilling" with a bully stick after we arrived!

Mirror, Mirror on the wall.......

I AM the fairest of them all!!!!

Tyke enjoyed riding on the luggage cart!

We went to the Biltmore on Monday, and it was a LOT less crowded during the week! While BaBa toured the House, Tyke and I went for a three-mile hike on the Estate!

A view from one of the trails through the gardens:

This huge American Holly tree was monstrous- and perfectly shaped for a Christmas tree!!!

Tyke checks out some of the flora on the trail:

Hey, bridges usually go over WATER.....

I'M GOIN' IN!!!!!

The boathouse on the Estate - a beautiful site: (don't know if you can tell, but the lake had ice on top!)

A view of the bridge over Bass Lake (this was in a scene in the movie "The Last of the Mohicans")

Taking a break beside the Lake....

But Mom, WHY can't I eat the geese?????????

A view of the stream from the top of the Bass Lake dam

The dam at Bass Lake - don't know if you can tell, but at the bottom of the waterfall, it's all ICE!!!

The fields along the French Broad River...in the summer it is full of hay!

A view of the chateau from the trail... it really is awesome!!!

Tyke and me at the Historic Horse Barn, that once housed the workhorses on the estate (Tyke tried to attack the topiary horse behind us!)

Hey, what's that scarecrow pointing at????

Tyke's getting a little heavy to hold for very long!!

Back at the hotel, Tyke takes in the view with a couple of her friends.

But Mom, I don't wanna go home!!!

But, home we are! Thanks for looking, and we wish you all could have been there!!!

My goodness it looks very cold. I expect the walk was quite brisk to warm the two of you up. I'm now going to look up the Biltmore Estate on the web so I can see what it is all about.

And, Kim, I'm surprised you can hold that big lump at all. She looks like a woolly bear, but really cute.

Anne, it was VERY cold while we were there! On Sunday, the temp stayed right at freezing with some fairly high winds that made it even colder! And you are right, Tyke is quite the little lump these days - she is now close to 40 lbs at 17 months! Not a big dog, but I still can't carry her very far anymore! (and she still likes to be carried to bed just as I did when she was a tiny puppy! )
Gene, BaBa's casts are gone, and she didn't even need physical therapy!
I have to show you these photos of Tyke and BaBa fighting over the chair beside the window in the hotel room (BaBa would KILL me if she knew I posted these!! )

BaBa: "Hey, Tyke, that's MY chair!"
Tyke: "I was here FIRST!!!"

BaBa: "I said MOVE IT!!!!!"

Tyke: "Well, this other chair IS pretty comfy....and a lot SAFER!!!"

Love the pictures of Tyke - she is just adorable. The estate looks like a beautiful place to visit. And *dog friendly* too - that's so great!

Bwhahahaha - those pics of Tyke and Baba *discussing* who gets the chair.... they are an absolute riot! I think if I were Tyke, I might be doing this !

Hahahahahahah!!!! Love those pics of Baba. I can just hear the tone in her voice. Thanks for posting all those pictures. It's fun to see where others go with their doodles and all the great scenery.
