Default kennel cough

We took Dakota to the vet and he does (probably--it's a process of elimination by that seems most likely) have kennel cough. Seems to be a mild case. He is on antibiotics for a week or so. He is actually gagging worse today than he has in a few days but the weather here is awful too--pea soup fog!!

We took Dakota to a new vet. His last "vet" would actually change Drs often and the last one that diagnosed his hip injury didn't even remember which leg was hurt by the end of the 15 min appt. Our neighbors recommended their vet who has been practicing for a long time and did a lot of volunteer work with wild animals. He immediatly took to Dakota because he LOVES standard poodles. He said Dakota strongly favors the poodle half--I guess it's what you want to see; we have never had poodles, only labs, so the lab is all I see in Dakota! Anyway, funny story: Larry, the vet, in his lifetime has given three standard poodles to his father. About 20 years ago, either the poodle got out or a lab got in and the poodle had pupples --Labradoodles!!! Although at that time Labradoodles wasn't even a word--they hadn't been "introduced" to the dog-lover world, yet. BUT, nonetheless, they found homes for all the little pupples in the neighborhood and he wound up as their vet. He got to know them well over their lifetimes and he said the poodle-labs were all wonderful dogs!! He is especially happy with Dakota, 'cause Dakota is sooooo friendly, he'll let anyone do most anything to him as long is it comes with pets and happy words. When Larry wanted to check Dakota's tonsils, which he said most dogs won't allow, Dakota let Larry crank his mouth wide open for a good look!!!!! SO, we have a new vet for Dakota--end of story!

About 2-3 weeks ago, my husband took him into Petsmart for to pick up something. that's a possibility. Vet Larry said his dogs have caught it through the fence from neighbor dogs who did go to dog parks, etc. It's highly contagious . . .

Your new vet sounds like a winner!
Our vet we go to is getting too big and too expensive.
We have a smaller country vet close by we are thinking of trying.
Dakota I hope your cough goes away soon.
Are you still busy practicing for Splash Dogs???

Sounds like Dakota will be ok. Take it easy, take your pills and you will be raring to go in no time. Glad to hear. And you have a good new vet too, so as far as sicknesses go, this was a good one.
