Default Doodle in the White House?

I was just watching MSNBC and they had a little blurb about Barrack Obama's promise to his little girls that he would get them a dog to take to the White House. The report said that the girls wanted a golden doodle!!! They said President elect Obama wanted to rescue a dog...wouldnt it be great to have a doodle as first dog?

I am not sure this would be a good thing. Once this get media-ized (my made up word) a lot of people are going to go out and get a doodle just because Barack has one. That will lead to bad breeding from people looking to make a quick buck and more doodles in the shelter. Doodles are great dogs but they are not for everyone. (Even more to the point dogs in general are not for everyone) Being a foster mom now for a doodle has really opened my eyes. I really do hope he gets a rescue dog but for the love of this breed I really hope it is not a doodle.

I know that sounds mean but doods are just to lovable and I don't want to see anything happen that will "hurt" this breed.

As a side note the AKC peeps will flip a gasket if he adopts a "desinger dog" hehehehehe (which I find pretty funny)

Don't know if it will do anything but I hope I don't start any battles....
I can see the AKC raising a stink, but how can you argue with adopting?

Well, getting a dog from the pound is out of the question if one of his daughters has allergies. Can't take that chance. But adopting a Doodle rescue or another non allergenic (I know there are no guaruntees) would be good for everyone!

But, I think the girls should choose the dog THEY want, not what Americans think they should have. If they end up with a purebred AKC dog then so be it. Maybe the girls want a chihuahua or a St Bernard!!

Biden has a Doodle so I am sure he is putting in a good word, though!!

Hah - even before I saw that news report, I asked my wife if she thought they'd get a labradoodle! But we decided that a doodle would be too much of a designer dog to play well with public perception. Plus, anything with poodle in it would also draw fire from those who accuse him of being an elitist. Which is fair, I guess - anyone who can pronounce "nuclear" AND has a poodle mix must be an elitist. She thinks they'll get something more mainstream, like a lab or beagle. And I agree - it would be sad if doodles became the new craze, the way dalmatians did after that movie came out some years ago. Like you said, it'd just lead to bad breeding, and then a wave of post-Christmas dropoffs at shelters.

Check out BarkObama2008 - they have "Labradoodles for Obama" buttons, it's really cute. I just ordered one for Liz.

Bocker and I were at the DogCatemy Gala Thursday in NYC and were with Tamar Geller...she was working on the goldendoodle for the First Family..she had actually found a goldendoodle rescue pup that they were interested in. The good part about a doodle in the White House, would be as we know, doodles are incredible additions to any family. Any dog they pick will immediately become the "in" thing, which is not good for any breed. Joe Biden's family already has a labradoodle...there was a picture of the women in his family in Vogue and the labradoodle was in it. So our doodles are here to stay. After all they are the best.
