Since I left for school, Sampson has been acting out more than usual...
1. Ate a WHOLE pizza off the counter 2. Worked open the basement door and ripped apart some bagged trash 3. Stole the catfood can and ruined the cover and ate it all 4. ATTACKED to cat (they both wanted some beef jerky that was left out on the counter) and had him by the neck until Christian screamed at him to stop So we are looking into doggie daycare maybe a few days a week for the following reasons... 1. Trainer suggested a nice place where they would put him in a small group until he warmed up to the other dogs and got over his shyness... 2. Mom & Dad & kids are now all going to be at school the whole day so he will be alone thoughts....?

doggy daycare might be good as
1. IT sounds like he is missing you and doesn't understand why you're gone 2. it gives him playtime and/or a way to learn socialization

I agree - if it's an option for your family I would suggest some daycare.
Is Sammy doing all these things (stealing food, opened the basement door) when he's home alone? I know you mentioned he cannot be crated, but if he's doing these things while alone then I think he may need some sort of confinement (dog proof area, etc) where he cannot get into trouble.

I think daycare is a good idea. I called many in the area and visited any that I thought might be good. The daycare the girls go to now is great. She will make smaller play groups for dogs that are shy. Also keep in mind Sammy might not even need a shy group. My is completely different at daycare then she is at the dog park. At the dog park she won't leave my side but at daycare she is running around like a monkey!!! (they have video so I can see what they are doing!!)
Good luck!!! |

Poor guy. Daycare works for us. The best part is I can get a lot of work done at night now because Sadie is exhausted from playing all day. Exercise is definitely the way to go, either via daycare or more walks. Good luck.

Doggy daycare sounds like a great idea.
It will burn up some of that energy and will be great for socialization. Especially if he is going to be home alone. He's had you around plus the family during the holidays and suddenly he is all alone.

Your Dog is missing you! That is probably why he is acting out. Doggy day care is great. It's not really day care but for them it's a chance to interact with other doggies and get tired before they come home.
