Anne, I'm so sorry for your loss. I myself lost my beloved standard poodle Moses in April and my lab Bella just weeks ago; so I know all too well the pain you've experienced. I fully agree that the best way to help ease the heart of such sorrow is to open it to a new friend. I now have Moses's half brother Chip, who is the sparkle in my eyes. He's everything I was hoping for and my new shadow where Moses used to stand.

Spud is very handsome... I hope you have many love-filled years together.

Kim, I loved the rosemary tale. I think that is an excellent payback. We must win at all costs with these dogs, even if only after they can't fight back.

When Simon died a good friend gave me a rose bush which I planted not far from his mango tree. As we unpotted it to put it in the ground the ticket with the name of the rose came out of the soil. It is called My Angel. Isn't that sweet? My friend had no idea it was called that when she bought it.

We are now counting the days until Spud, Mr Chips, Tater, and another friend called him Mash, arrives - and there are 5 to go. I think we are strong enough to survive 2 large puppies. Hugo will be 8 months old tomorrow and Spud is 9 1/2 weeks. We've got past house training with Hugo and now it will be back to square one with Spud. Sigh!

My Angel...now that is a story to give you goosebumps!
Catch up on your sleep now....there won't be much when your little "tater tot" gets home! It hasn't been too long ago that I was wondering if I would ever get to sleep through a night! My first anniversary with Tyke will be Aug. 25! It seems like only yesterday, but yet I find it hard to imagine what life was like before she came to live with us!!! This was the first picture of the two of us, taken at the breeder's farm!

Anne...so sorry to hear abot the loss of your baby.
Dieing before they should makes it especially hard.
Tink....I missed something. What happened to Bella???
I have owned my home for 25 years. When a pet dies here, the rule is to bury it and plant a tree or bush on top. We planted a pinion pine on my Lab 16 yrs ago....it was about 3" tall when we planted it....it's now 10 ft. tall.
My beloved toy poodles each were planted under a rose bush, and our old kitty that died at 20 yrs old got a lilac bush. Any puppies that may die, get buried with my little chocolate toy poodle under a red rose bush (she was the greatest mom).
It actually keeps their memory alive as I never forget who's under what.
Now, if I move and the next person desides to did up my plants and change the landscape.....

Tink, I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your two much loved dogs. Nice thing about a such a forum, we all understand each other's pain.

All those names in your signature. How many of them are people and how many animals?

Kim, that's such a lovely photo of you and your baby and if it were mine I'd crop it like so -

Judi, I think we will just have to live in our houses and our garden of lost animals until we die too. Wouldn't it be nice if they could dig a hole and stick us under a rose bush next to our furries?

Beautiful idea, Mud! I think I will do that! And I love the idea of planting something to represent our furbabies - it signifies that life does go on!!!
