Big handsome boy... wish I could take him! Carol's considering getting a buddy for Ozzie but she wants a smaller breed.

Thank you all for your support. It means alot to me.

We have survived day 2! I just need to make it to the weekend. I'm figuring by then things will be calmer and we will all be used to each other.

Sadly, tonight I shook my finger at him and shouted "No!" and he cowered as if I was going to hit him. I felt so bad for him. I had to give him extra snuggles.

Poor guy! He must have had it rough before he came to you Deb! I sure wish I could take him, but BaBa would probably have a fit! She has made me promise to at least wait until Tyke is 2 (and maybe calms down a bit!) before we THINK about a 2 dog house! (She is handling daycare duties for Tyke while I am teaching!). Benson is so gorgeous!!

I didn't mean to imply that Benson was necessarily abused. He could be the victim of nothing more than a newspaper swat. (You decide if that falls into the abuse category.) My only concern was that I had scared him at a time when I am trying to build trust. He may be a big guy but he has a sensitive soul. He is such a happy guy.

Deb I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sadie was like that when she first stayed with me. Sadie trusted no one. She wouldn't even let me touch her feet to wipe her paws after she was outside. She would shreek and bite at me. Now 2 mos later she could care less. She sits like Maya does and I wipe the front two and then I have her stand and do the back two. Sometimes if she is in a playful mood she will lick at my hand.

She hated and still hates to be yelled at so I try really hard not to raise my voice at her because a simple No will work.

I just thought I'd post an update. Benson is doing great! He is an incredibly sweet dog and well behaved. It's surprising that he's homeless. I got the Easy Walk chest harness for him and he walks like a pro, right at my left side in heel position. He wasn't exercised much so he thinks daily walks are a real treat.

We've made it through four days and he is much calmer now. The panting and drooling from the first couple of days was excessive and a bit gross but that's over with and we're left with a big sweetheart of a dog.

Glad to hear things are going well! With Miko and then Rumor....the panting and drooling about drove me crazy the first week I got them. It does go away once they get more comfortable with you. Bless you again for having such a big heart!!

Gene, I thought about Rumor when I had to give Benson an ear haircut. He somehow managed to brush against a weed and ended up with about 50 little burrs on his ear. I had to trim the hair but I was a little nervous about giving the ear a nip!
