Default Hey Denver--Dakota needs some pointers!

Our house is kind of horse shoe shaped with sliders in the family room and bedroom with a deck in between. Because of the 100+ daytime temps and not enough night cooling, Dakota has taken to laying on the chaise lounge on the deck that is about 4 or 5 feet from the family room slider with his doggie door. The other night he was barking up a storm from the comfort of his lounger. My husband was reclining on the couch in the family room and hollering at Dakota to be quiet. I am in bed wondering why, of the three of us, I am always the one that has to be inconvenienced. But, it is what it i, so I got up and walked over to my slider and moved the shade. I was going to tell Dakota directly to stop his barking but the mere movement of the shade scared the beegees out of him. I have never seen anything like this--I know Dakota is a very fast runner, but I kid you not, he made it off the chaise and through his doggie door in one fluid move and, once again, where was my camera because I swear he moved so fast he left a trail behind him. And if that wasn't cowardly enough, my husband said when Dakota came flying through the door, he didn't even try to look back at this awful thing that scared him so, he kept running through the family room heading for the bedroom, I guess, so I could comfort him!!!

Denver, and wasn't it Cinnamon that recently defended mom's home, can you whisper some tips in Dakota's ear! Please?????

LOL Diane

There have been scientific tests done to determine why some animals and people are far more brave or easily frightened than others. They found a biological difference in the brain that is inborn that they feel to a large degree determines how a given individual will react to a sudden fright. If their findings are valid, the only hope would be from a brain transplant, and that's a bit drastic.

I would think that a strong flight reflex if accompanied by good speed, might keep one alive and whole longer than a strong fight reflex. So keep that boy fit and leave him a clear path. lol

hahahahaha!!!
Knowing what your house looks like, I can just imagine this scene!
There he was, being all brave and protective...when all of a sudden, out of the corner of his eye...he saw it! The horrible "blinds monster!"
Run Dakota!!! Ruuuuunnnnnnnnnnn!
Whew! I am glad he made it inside safely!
(Rosie would just tell Dakota to "cowboy up".)

I have another little wimp right here! She is literally scared of her own shadow sometimes, especially at night when she can't see as well!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Dakota I may have have let
you go in the doggy door first, because it is your house
but let me tell ya that I would come flying in right behind ya.....................

It is a little different when you can see the enemy but when they make such a scarey noise and give ya a warning then a smart dog takes to the
hills and waits til Mom or Dad gives more instruction..............

Cinnamon brave? We're talking about a dog that would have beat Dakota to the door and slipped in under Denver!

Gene...we have the metal gate terror too! hahaha (Sometimes I knock it down just for kicks!)

Okay, another terrifying thing...citronella spray bark collars! I put one on 3 of my dogs, they all were fine except for Madison...poor little thing, she jumps 3 feet when another dog barks now! I only had it on her for about 4 hours and she refuses to bark! Hahaha, she was a yappy little thing too...now she is prone to hiding in the very back of the biggest covered plastic kennel. Poor girl. (Yes, I do feel guilty about that one.)
