Glad nothing but Mija's feelings got hurt....maybe that will be a learning experience for her.
Keep up the good work with her Sessa...one lapse certainly doesn't mean failure...she's just still learning!

glad no one was hurt and you're right.......recreate the situation with a 50ft lead on her.

Vanessa how old is MIJA??? cause yesterday morning i was sitting out front of my house with Max and peanut off leash when OMG 2 dozen cyclists cycle by
Max and peanut started to bolt and ohhhhhhhh i can't believe they
stopped when i firmly yelled "MAX PEANUT NO, you stay!"

but i am finding as they mature they get better. on weekends many cyclists go by up to 60 of them at a time usually mine are on leash when this happens.

anyway, recreate to setting MIJA up is best training to stopping it

keep us posted

Glad to hear Mija is ok................
As much as Denver does not chase his own cats, his prey drive
for other cats and now squirells has kicked into high gear so I
keep him on leash in areas with cars or other dangers.......
I have learned and am still learning that everytime I think my dog will
not react a certain way or do a certain thing he then goes and does it
So now I never say that Denver will or will not do something
as he keeps me guessing. Good lesson I have learned, and from the
sounds of it Vanessa, Mija is still teaching as well.................
It helps to keep our guard up and to always expect the unexpected..........

I'm so glad she (and the biker) were ok...it can get bad when they are off leash near a road.

Kirby has a very strong prey instinct (not his fault - it's his genetics) and it scares me - he loses all ability to listen in certain situations.

Good luck w/your training.

Glad everyone is okay. Thanks for the reminder not to get lulled into a sense of control where their instincts are concerned. Good luck with the training. Mija is lucky to have you teach her control. I have no doubt that you will not let this slide. Go Vanessa!

Wow, sorry that happened. I have no advice as a newbie owner but just wanted to say I am crossing my fingers for you. I have no doubt you will get this worked through.

Scary stuff Vanessa, but the outcome was a lesson well learned....you just never know what goes thru their minds, no matter how well trained they are! And I'm sorry, but I would be a little 'miffed' and that's putting it mildly, if someone kicked my dog!!! If she had bitten him, then the kick would be warranted....but still, I'm glad no one was hurt..especially Mija!!!

I'm so glad it at least ended with everyone safe!
I had a similar situation yesterday with Ava.
I rotate the dogs in and out of the house, and it was her turn to come in. So rather than put a leash on her, I just let her out of her run and headed for the house. Usually she beats me to the door and waits there for me.
As luck would have it, she got just about to the house when our neighbor across the street stepped out from behind his lilac bushes with his toy poodle on a leash.

Ava saw the poodle and made a mad dash across the street to check her out.
Thank God there was no traffic coming! She got to the poodle, sniffed it and decided it wasn't big enough to be a threat or even interesting, so trotted back home and to the door. My heart was racing! From now on I'll be using her leash! Bet you will be too.

Glad it turned out as a lesson learned and not a disaster......gotta keep our babies safe....

And Mija.....for getting kicked, you should have knocked his bike over.....
