Default Exhausting but PHENOMENAL day today! :)

This was to be our last lesson today with the Russian Dog Wizard.
We may go for one more for next week.

So, we met at a Pet Store, which is always buzzin'. Vladae looked at me and said...."Okay, take him off leash and GO!!"
I looked at him like..... Do what?

I was astounded! Bogart walked up and down each aisle passing people, other dogs, dog toys treats etc with his right ear periodically brushing my left leg. Perfect!! I couldn't even believe he did this!

Then Vladae invited people to distract him.........nothing.

I was buying some dog treats and was told to leave him, off leash in a STAY about 10 feet from me while I checked out!! He STAYED!

When we walked out the door, Vladae dropped the leash and told me to take him to the car. My first reaction was to grab the leash and hang on for dear life! We were on Woodward Ave and the yearly Dream Cruise is starting up with cars revving their engines and acting like goodballs.
So, I took off for the car and got him there safe and sound!! WHEW!!

I'm so proud of Bogart!! I can't believe this is him!! He is such a good boy!!!

I just had to share!

Awesome!!! Both you and Bogie!!!!! I feel so worthless! I must start working harder with Dakota.

One thing I will say: I'm not sure why, but Dakota also minds better off leash. It's almost as though he knows I'm giving him a special level of trust and he doesn't want to let me down. My husband has a heart condition and he is suppose to excercise which he never does--there's always an excuse. The other night after dinner I suggested we take Dakota for a walk. My husband, of course, said no. I said I really wished he would come because I was planning on walking Dakota off leash and it would be nice if we were both there in case Dakota decided to do his own thing. DH thought I was crazy and DID come because he was afraid how Dakota would behave. Dakota did not walk at our side BUT he did walk just a few feet ahead and continually looked back to make sure we approved. When we turned around and called him, he was right with us. A neighbor came walking towards us with her two dogs. I put Dakota in a sit and told him to stay. The dogs walked by and Dakota stayed although he was quivering with excitment! Maybe there is hope. For me that is; Dakota's great--he just needs firm direction!

Diane, That is awesome!!
For dakota to do that with other dogs passing by etc is fantastic!! You should be proud!

Seriously, you guys. I never thought we'd get to this point this fast and with Bogie being so young.
Vladae is an excellent trainer. He could give all of you some great tips. He'll be living in Southern California after August 21st. We're going to miss him. We've actually become good friends!!

Vladae has several DVD's out that might help. He gave us 3 of them and I believe there's 5 more coming out. My husband wrote the wording for the jackets of the DVD's as well as the commercial for his new "Pet Convincer" coming out in a month.

Doodles are very bright dogs. With work and effort, they can all be super heroes!!!

Wow that is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Denver is great off leash but I would worry about a cat crossing
the road and him taking off since he thinks all cats are his and they
need to be directed to my house.........................On leash
when I tell him off he stays with me but off leash hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Send that guy to BC...........

wow that is amazing

I really have to do some looking into trainers in our area...we have Dexter's issue with stealing things (and then eating them) and then both dogs bark a lot when people walk past our house - I really want to get someone here to work with us on those issues. I have been lazy and need to start my research

Leslie,
Pick up the Dog Whisperer video by Paul Owens! I have the book and the video and it's worth every penny!
Lindamarie you and Bogie are great role models. Taking the responsibility to raise and train your own service dog is quite a task. You should be very proud of your accomplishments! It's not the trainer...it's YOU and Bogie that have done this! He just showed you how to do it
Keep up the good work

Thanks mtd!!
You're doing the same right? Training by yourself?

Lesle,
Between Cesar and Vladae's DVD's you could have grrrrrrreat doodles!!
I'm going to be selling some of Vladae's video's maybe on ebay soon?
I just have to figure out how to.
In the interim, PM me if you want so tips!
