Took Rumor to the vet today. The vet said it's possibly a histioctomas tumor (wow, that's a mouthful!). It's a non-cancerous tumor in younger dogs that usually goes away all on it's own. Just to be sure that it's not just an injury related booboo (clinical term), he's going to be on antibiotics for two weeks. He loved the attention at the vets, especially the praise from the vet himself! He weighed in at a perfect 57.5# and made the vet's day!!
Here's a link on the tumor http://www.vet.uga.edu/VPP/clerk/woods/index.php

Vet said if it's an infection, 2 weeks. If a tumor, 8-12 weeks. It is yucky looking, but doesn't hurt him.

Good news...I guess, but be sure to look a little sad and whiney a couple of times Rumor. Maybe it will get ya something special from Dad.!!!

Thank goodness it's not malignant! My heart stopped there for a second when I saw the title of your post, Gene! Rumor, you can get lots of extra treats and attention out of this one for sure!!!

That's very good news.
We found a growth on Dexter's chest several months ago - the vet shaved the area and had us put ointment on it - turns out it was just a sore and not a tumor. He told us what you said - in young dogs theses are almost always harmless and can go away on their own. The vet did say that if it didn't go away it's possible they would need to remove it, but even that is not a big deal. Hope it goes away by itself

Glad it doesn't seem serious (I was nervous to open this post!). I agree with the others though, Rumor you need to play this one out a bit and get some extra goodies!!

Fred has had histiocytomas. The first he was a little under a year and it was on the elbow of his front leg. We started with a wait and see but he kept on licking it, and then it started bleeding really hard--it had started to spot bleed just a little the night before--probably from licking or rubbing since it was on his elbow joint. I was glad I was home when it happened because I took him to the vet right away and it was removed surgically. The second was on his tail, probably about 6-8 months after the first, and that one he left alone and after a few months it went away. Fred is 4 now and hasn't had any more of them.
