Default Doodles do Dog Lure - added some photos

These 2 are totally wiped. We took them to a dog lure course in our area today. The club charges $7 per dog (which is apparently mostly donated to a local firehouse) and each dog runs the course 2x. We were only going to have Kirby do it (we didn't think Dex would enjoy it), but the more we watched, we realized Dex really wanted to do the course. They did really well - both chased the bag the entire time. However, neither wanted to come off the course (Dex started running all around trying to get someone to chase him). There are horses that are in the area at other times and all the smells seemed too much for them. Dexter also ate a bunch of horse poop (gross).

Anyway, here are some videos. Just a warning, the videos bounce a lot in spots so I hope I don't make anyone sick My husband took some photos, but we are having issues downloading them on our new laptop (so I'll share later)...

Oh - both dogs went nuts when the other was on the course...they didn't mind when a random dog was out there, but I think they would prefer to run it together (which is an option)...

Just what Tanner would do.

That looks like such fun. Can you explain the lure...is it mechanical and if so what keeps the dog out of the middle?

wow that is soooo neat for doodles to do.
I'd like to know how you found out about this.

GREAT videos, looks like Kirby at one time almost had it too

So basically they have this course set up (looked like the course was made of fishing line or some other really thin string) and there was a central place that a human could control the speed of the lure (aka the plastic bag) - the whole course was battery operated. The person controlling the course would make the bag go faster or slower (depending on the dog). The plastic bag traveled along this line all around the area. The area they did this at was huge (at least 2-3 football fields). We tried to guess how far they ran and thought maybe 1/2 to 1 mile for 2 runs.

There were some greyhounds which were SO fast...and a golden retriever who seemed older and much slower. The dogs just seemed to naturally get it...They just kept following the bag. All the dogs who had done this before acted antsy waiting for their turn so it was pretty clear they find this to be a lot of fun.

What fun - and great exercise for the doodles! Aren't doodles beautiful when they run? They look so effortless!

I swear Kirby taught Dex how to point - I don't remember him doing this before...

I just looks like a beautiful place to run. How often do they offer it?

That looks like so much fun! I know that Tuesday would especially enjoy that. We don't ever get anything cool like that where we live!
