Default Bubba gets skunked at work!!

As some of you know...Bubba is the official "goose dog" for the Myrtle Creek Golf Course...Last evening my wife and myself took Bubba and his apprentice Cosette out there to clear about two dozen geese from the far end of the course...walking back, with only i group of golfers finishing up, they were having some fun off leash...they were about 100 yards away when i saw a little black creature waddling across the 16th fairway...both dogs saw it and ran toward it...and went right up to it. We started yelling at them to return as you can imagine...Cosette came back right away but Bubba was too interested....I think he thought it was a little black and white kitten....and since we have cats...he goes right up to it, tail wagging, gets down on his front fore legs to give it a sniff....needless to say he got sprayed in the face!! He decided to come at that point...the little baby skunk chasing him...funny. It was not a pleasant ride home. Luckily it was just a baby skunk so he didnt get it that bad. We had some Skunk Out shampoo at home....so after a couple of baths, he got to sleep in the house.

Where can you find Skunk Out? Tucker (beagle mix) gets skunked all the time... Someone told us to take him right to petsmart and they will de-skunk him. Has anyone done this? I heard it worked wonders.

ICK lol

We too have plenty of skunks around. We used to have a horse (Sonny) that was like an overgrown dog. He was our only one as a weanling and got spoiled to the max during that time. By the time he was a couple years old we had begun buying more horses.

Sonny was good buddies with out dog and cats. He'd stand by the board fence so the cats could get on his back and allow them to ride him. Well, as luck would have it, he encountered a skunk one day in the pasture and we figure he too thought it was a cat. So in his typical silly way he went to greet it by nudging with his nose and got sprayed square in the face.

Now if you think trying to de-stink a dog is a mess, consider a horse! The poor guy came charging up through the pasture screaming for help with his eyes and nose running in a dead panic. We heard him and ran to see what the problem was. PPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE UUUUUUUUUUUU

For over a week none of the other horses would stand near him in the pasture, no one would ride or play with him; he was one sad horse. lol

BTW tomato juice didn't seem to be worth the bother.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but had to share.

Here's a link for a home-made recipe. Thankfully I haven't had to use it (our little skunk family moved on without incident). I know this topic has come up before and others have said this recipe works.

Tink, your story is so funny. I felt bad for your horse though when he was shunned by everyone. He must have been really sad. Thanks for sharing.

but a couple of neighbors dogs have been sprayed and btw tomato juice
did not work at all, I will check to see if I can get that shampoo you spoke of, just in case............
