So... we have had Jack for two months now and he is quite the character. He and Bodzin love each other and really have made the whole two doodle thing a breeze.
Jack is a complete people lover. He is very vocal and likes to talk with grunts and moans. He barks occassionally, but only to get your attention. I have determined that he is definitely 1/2 lab 1/2 poodle. He has so much lab in him.... very agile and wiggily and loves to get your attention. He jumps on the bed (only invited now) and plops right on me. Sometimes he almost sits on your head. He retrieves like it is his job and always brings the object back to me to throw it again. Jack has a tendency to eat whatever may be in reach on the counter... he specializes in opening pizza boxes, eating the pizza silently and then closing the box. AMAZING. Jack DOES NOT SHED. COMPARE TO BODZIN Bodzin would prefer to sniff you than to come up to get your attention. He only barks when he is protecting the yard. He is 3/4 poodle 1/4 lab. He is working on his agility thanks to Jack juking him so many times, but he is more of my clutz. He is very particular about where he sits when he gets invited on the bed. He is the perfect spooner. Bodzin will run after a stick, but then sits down to chew on it until Jack comes along to steal it. Bodzin would never think to eat any of our food unless we offered it to him or Jack grabbed it. Bodzin is losing hair, mostly on his back, like crazy. BOTH DOODLES... love the water and love to take a walk. Jack actually grabs the leash and wants to walk himself sometimes. I am not allergic to either of them. I AM SO THANKFUL TO IDOG FOR JACK AND TO THE ROBINSON HUMANE SOCIETY FOR BODZIN. They have made my summer break (teacher) awesome and enriched both my husband and I's lives so much. While I know that there are responsible breeders out there... adopting a doodle will always be for me. |

What a great story! It is interesting to hear the personality differences between the two as well

I appreciate the breeders who carefully plan their breedings and try to get as many pups accounted for before they are even born.I just don't think that some of the backyard breeders around here really think about the law of supply and demand.... when I see that one lady is having 4 litters this summer with the economy the way it is and knowing the number of other breeders around here... without having any claimed before they are born... argh... it just isn't sound business practice. I raised sheep, chickens, goats, etc... on our farm and we would never breed more than what the market would bear. (End of economics teacher rant All I was saying was that I think I am the kind of person who likes to adopt those who were not wanted..... I am also a yard sale and thrift store junkie and am pondering not having my own children, but adopting them. For others, getting a dog with all its issues from a rescue or a pound wouldn't work, but I like the challenge. I will admit that I LOVE the way that Australian LDs look and would love to have one, but on a teacher's salary.... there is no way I could afford one. |

That is so neat. I am so glad you rescued your doodles. I do believe that is a GREAT way to do it. I know how important it is to rescue dogs.
