Default More prey for the doodles

Yesterday it was Dexter with the baby bunny...today after work Kirby caught a wounded bird and ran amok with it. My husband got him to "drop it" by mentioning "dinner". 2 days, 2 dead animals

Both doodles have been scouring the yard for more animals...

Typical dog behavior!
I saw Bella snag a low flying bird right out of the air. It's a game and they enjoy it immensely!

We had a baby bunny incident. It can shake you up a bit. if I let Hershey go in the neighbourhood birds would become an endangered species.

Well, my husband saw my doodles very excited about something the other day and went to check it out. It was one of the neighbors new kittens. It had wondered into the yard and been mauled by both my doodles. They didn't hurt it, but it was scared and COVERED in slobber. My husband quietly put the kitten back over the fence. Hopfeully it had learned it's lesson. I was quite pleased by the fact that the poor thing was not hurt. Calvin weighs 100 pounds and could easily squash it. I don't think either of them would try to kill it, just play a little to rough.

Anyway, the same cannot be said for my cat. He is always bringing home dead things. Once we forgot to close the cat door before we went to bed and woke up to a slaughter scene in the mudroom. I'm talkin' blood splattered on the walls and everything! Poor bunny. All that was left was his foot....So much for it being lucky....

Yikes Leslie!! Not a scene one wants to be greeted by first thing in the morning, or any time for that matter!

I know - I'm almost afraid to go outside w/them today They totally remember it too - they go back to the spot where the animal was and sniff the ground like crazy!! I swear Dex still looks proud of himself too - that goofy doodle grin!

Ok...there is some animal getting into our yard because now it's Day 3 and again Dex found a dead bird in our yard. I was home alone w/them and totally grossed out! I observed him (while trying to figure out what to do) and he was totally playing with it like it was a toy (running w/it in his mouth, throwing it to hiimself) - so I felt a bit better he wasn't trying to destroy it. I got their dinner and he dropped the bird for dinner. I had to pick it up in a plastic bag (GROSS!!).

Something is obviously killing these animals, because I watched them the entire time they were outside and Dex definitely found it on the ground.

YUCK!
