Default POOP in Home Depot!

We had family in town today on a cross-country trip, and they needed some supplies at Home Depot. I figured this was a good opportunity to bring Cooper to the store with me on leash (I used to walk him around there in my arms when we first got him from the breeder, as part of our socialization plan). I mean, he's 7 months old, what's the worst that a little 30lb puppy could do? Bad daddy! Bad!

My uncle-in-law David and I had just gotten almost to the back of the store (of course - REALLY far from the front door) when David mentioned that Cooper was squatting! Sure enough, the little munchkin was poopin right in the middle of the store (I'm not talking in a nice secluded aisle, I mean in a big open area)! Agh! I quickly handed David the leash while I blocked the three piles of poop from view as best as I could. As I'm unwrapping a poop bag from my pocket to start grabbing, David says "Whoops! " Sure enough, as I look up from the poop I was grabbing, I see one more little one about 12 in. away, and beyond that, a huge shmeary area, with a nice big, David-sized shoeprint in it (and David looking embarrassed). No way to pick that up! Since I was already feeling a bit like I was breaking the rules having him in the store in the first place (Cooper, that is, not David, wakka wakka), and worried that three solid(ish) poops might be followed by the, well, yuckier kinds that sometimes come at the end (so to speak), I grabbed the poop, WIPED at the large squished pile as best as I could and ran through the store to get him outside. Cooper, of course, couldn't have been having a better time!

After David emerged from the store about half a minute later, we had a great laugh. As I got back to the car, I started to hear my karma alarm beeping, so I grabbed some Windex and paper towels from my trunk and headed back inside to make it right. In my defense, I tried to wipe up the original pile, the remnants of the shmear pile and the 15 or so exponentially shrinking poop footprints that David left through the store, but most of it was already dry, and to be honest, looked a lot like normal dirt. It was Home Depot, after all.

So to Cooper, I say "PLEASE don't remember how much fun that was! I'd like you to be a dog I can take with me when I go shopping!" (Though maybe I'll be a Lowes man from now on...) To the maintenance staff at the Windward Home Depot in Alpharetta, sorry!

Bahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa

Denver once peed in our local pet store.
I had seen another dog pee all over the cat litter bags
and before I could steer Denver out of the way he lifted his leg and did the same. If you ever try to tell a dog (at least one that lifts there leg)
to stop in mid pee well it is like asking any male species to do that and of course they turn to see what you want and pee goes in the direction of the turn...................no way to clean that up, so we just told the employees, and they said do not worry as it happens all the time........

Good thing you had a poop bag with you. It could have been worse?!

I guess sometimes you just gotta go. Maybe he was a bit anxious with all the strange people and that got things moving.

That's a great story! We have taken Chouette, at over a year and about 55 lbs., into our Home Depot, but we put her in a cart, padding it first to make it paws-friendly. It avoids temptation and everyone makes a fuss over her. One staff person commented that she was the largest dog she'd seen in there, but there was no question but that she was welcome. It's not easy getting her into a cart though....

Leslie - your reply reminded me that when we first got there, I considered putting him in a cart (thinking that might be more acceptable). Now I'm thinking we dodged a bullet! Imagine if he had pooped in a cart. Holy cow.

I don't know that it was exactly a bullet you dodged....

But the point is that they won't go in the cart. When we had to transport sheep or goats to the vet's we'd stick them in the back of the van and make them lie down, and they'd stay clean the whole trip. Worked wonders.

SH$#% happens!!!! Dakota has gone to Home Depot and Lowes with us since he was about 4 months old--my husband is a contractor so we go frequently!! About a month ago we were in Home Depot and as we rounded a corner I looked down and to my total shock, Dakota lifted his leg!!!! I gave him a swift swat on the but and scolded him, hoping DH didn't see--no luck! Dakota got the lecture of his life!!! Don't know what made him do it, but I sure hope it was a once-in -a-lifetime experience!!
