I'm not a happy boy right now......there is too much noise and I don't like it at all!! There's bright lights going off everywhere. I can't lay down and sleep or nothing. I'm just sitting close to dad with my best sad face on. I can't wait til it's over!
Jonah Poor Jonah.....our first year with fire works was ok. Then last year he actually saw them and didn't like it at all. He doesn't bark, he just either sits right next to me, or if we're outside, he just stands with his tail tucked tight between his legs......poor little guy. At least it's only once a year.Miko and Rumor are unfazed. How does everyone else's doods do with fireworks??

awh... poor guy.
Sampson wasn't allowed down on the beach where the fireworks happen. But loud noises starttle him so he'd probably be scared.

We're still going strong here. For a depressed area where no one supposedly has any money.....there's a lot of people in my neighborhood with really excellent fireworks!

This is our first Fourth of July with Daisy, and the fireworks are making her crazy! She's not acting "scared" exactly - more like excited and anxious. She's running around the house trying to figure out where all the popping sounds are coming from, and when I let her out, she flew out the door and dashed all around the yard barking. She doesn't know what it is, but she's determined to protect us from it, bless her heart.
I've had other dogs who were terrified and hid, and one who wasn't fazed, but Daisy's "lemme at 'em" reaction is a new one for me! Gene, I hope Jonah can find a comfy place to ride it out and that it's all over soon! S. |

Well come to find out, today at Meme's house they lit some fireworks (I had to work 11 hours... and no time and 1/2 pay either!
My poor baby! Meme was MAD we didn't think ahead and be more concerned for him before they lit them.

Awww Jonah sweetie, I used to have a really bad thunder phobia until I was well into my 20s, so I know how scary the boomies can be. Hang in there and snuggle with Dad. It's the best feeling there is.
Dexter was unfazed too. He looked around once or twice and went back to sleep.

I live less than 1/2 mile from where the town's fireworks go off. I can see them really well from my backyard. Pringle, my cattle dog mix, has never really cared much about them and now he's basically so deaf it's no real problem for him. My old lab jesse was always afraid, but got a little less so every year. Last year she actually watched them with me with only minimal shaking.
As for the the new dood, Finn (formerly known as Gray), well, it wasn't pretty! Unfortunately we were in the backyard investigating when the first one went off. It was big, loud and beautiful. It also scared the bejeebers out of him. Thank goodness I put his leash on him before we went out, just in case. The yard is fenced, but he was totally freaked out. We spent the next half hour hiding in the bathroom! LOL! He has recovered quite well and wanted to go back out to investigate when it was over. I just hope I didn't traumatize him by taking him out at the worst possible moment! Jonah, sweetie, we feel your pain. Maybe try some rescue remedy next year. It did seem to help calm Finn a bit. If only I had given it to him before they started...

We watch the fireworks from our deck every year. We too live a very short distance from the park where the are shot. Normally we have about 30 people. It's an annual event, but this year many people were headed in different directions so we decided to skip it. It was fun watching and relaxing instead of hosting that many people and the clean up is much easier.
We sat on the deck with Marley and Jewel our Newfie friend and Marley lounged through alot of it. Did phase him or Jewel a bit. They both paid little or no attention. After the grand finale, we took a short walk and they saw lots of fireworks in the air being shot off in the streets. Again no problem. After a full day of having fun, this is what they looked like prior to the fireworks. During the show..not much difference.

None of mine seemed too worried by the fireworks. We had people setting them off in 3 different directions all within a mile or so of us. They were curious and puzzled, but no panic thank goodness.
I've had dogs that were scared of fireworks. It's no fun! Here's hoping things settle down soon for all their sakes.

Jonah was fine as soon as we went to bed (early). I watched the Kids in the Hall on dvd, and he fell right asleep, even though the neighborhood show was still going on. Maybe next year we'll just head straight to bed during the whole show.....
