Default Doodle Parenting is FRUSTRATING sometimes!

Ugh... We are having some time with Sampson right now.
I love him to death, but sheesh do we have our share of issues with him.

1. Sampson has decided not to eat his food lately and he had noticably lost weight. Mom bought him canned Pedigree which we do not want to feed him, but he wolfed a half a can down in 2 minutes when she gave it to him. Plus, he has food allergies so we are trying not to do it, but he's not eating his relatively expensive Taste of the Wild. I caught him chewing on a paper plate he dug out of the garbage a few minutes ago as well.

2. Daddy is not pleased because Sampson refuses to come near him even with tasty treats he won't come close. Last night Daddy was petting Sammy and Sampson got up and moved away to hide under a chair. Mom and Dad are frustrated because it has been 6 months since we brought Sam home and it seems like no progress has been made.

3. Sampson has decided that the trashcan is now a plaything. As is items left out and available to steal via countersurfing. Today my brother forgot to shut the bathroom door in which we lock the kitchen trash up and I came home to this... (the bagels were on the counter and not in the trash but he didn't eat any?!?!)

4. Sampson lapses into odd "depressed" states and sleeps the whole day away in my room. He won't come downstairs and out for the bathroom unless ME and ME ALONE takes him.

There is so much much more but I dn't want to rant too much...
Buuuuttt... Obedience classes start next week and we will get to work with a trainer!

Just this week I saw a DW episode and the owner had a female dog that HATED men.

Caesar worked with her and got it all worked out. Too long to go into detail, but see if you can find it on the net. Maybe he has tips on his website or in one of his books for this issue. I think it is fairly common.

As for the trash, we had a hunting dog growing up and she NEVER got over the garbage can thing. We always had one with a top.

And I know this may sound mean, but IGNORE him sometimes. If the vet says he is fine, than catering to him makes HIM the pack leader and you his lowest member of the pack cause you placate his ever whim.

Or, I might be completely off my rocker and am watching WAY to many dog training shows!!! LOL
