Default why do people lie?

I need to vent a bit. I got Gray last week from a seemingly very nice woman who needed to rehome him due to a job loss. We met and got along well and decided it was a good match and he came home with us. She was to have her vet fax his complete records to my vet prior to today's appointment and gave me what little she could find in the way of records.

When we arrived at the vet today the records had not been faxed. I called her and she said that the vet no longer had them because he hadn't been there in more than a year. In our state vets are required to keep records for seven years by law. I knew she was lying to me and ended the conversation. The receptionist called the clinic on the shot record she gave me and they have no record of her as a client! I am now wondering if anything she told me was true.

I guess none of it really matters. He has a clean bill of health. He got his rabies shot and a heartworm test and my vet is running vaccine titers to see where his immunity on the rest is so we don't over vaccinate him. We'll vaccinate in a few weeks if it is indicated.

I know I have the doodle I am supposed to. He is so happy here and has never shown the slightest sign of missing his old family. I just hate being lied to. Now i'm left wondering if there is anything else I don't know that I should.

That's terrible. At least he has a clean bill of health and a wonderful new home!!! You should call her back and tell her you don't appreciate being lied to, nor does the state and they'll be paying a visit to her!

I am sorry you were lied to, but happy that you have such a wonderful Doodle!

I guess the way to look at it is to just treat him as if he came from a shelter and had no background info.

What is so stupid is that there are so many people who will take a rehome even if they have some issues. But to lie is to put doubt in the minds of anyone considering a rehome.

Best of luck. You have done a darn good thing!!!

I am sorry this happened to you! I am not sure why people would lie either. What is the point? But you have a great dog now and he is healthy so that is all that matters.

That really stinks. I am sorry. But at least you know he is in good health. Well keep us posted on how he is doing in his new home. We all love pictures of doodles.

one of the wonders of the world: why people lie!
it is rotten they do.......but maybe things happen for reason LIKE someone HONEST and Loving like you NOW has Gray in your home and heart.
I'm glad Gray is with someone such as you and your family.

when someone lies I also wonder how well they take care of their own family and pets

BUT i'd also be very persistent about RECORDS!! and you can try telling her she'll be reported by you , it may work?

Glad to hear Gray has a clean bill of health. Is it Gray or Grey? Anyone know where each comes from? I assume one is left over from the Queen's English like color or colour.

As far as lying; bad parenting IMO. Blame society and the focus on the almighty dollar all you want for bad people. In the end it boils down to the parents. I play violent video games, watch the war coverage on CNN, sex and drugs in the movies, and if someone asks me a question I won't lie.

My parents raised me to believe in honesty. They gave me a swat upside the head when I was being a brat and used a wooden spoon to paddle my ass when I deserved it.

So just because I'm in the insurance biz doesn't mean I'm a bad person!

All the more reason that I like doodles better than non-doodle people! :P

Thank you all! I appreciate all the support. You guys are awesome! I know it's not the end of the world or even that big a deal, I was just really ticked when I got home from the vet!

I strongly suspect that there are no real vet records for Gray because I suspect she never took him to the vet. But why lie about it? We called the clinic whose name was on the shot record folder she gave me and they had no record of her name. Soooo, I'm thinking she never took him there. perhaps his first owner did, or she gave me another dog's shot record.

In any case, it is all working out for the best. Gray is happy and loved here and already totally bonded to me. Actually, he was totally bonded to me about five minutes after I met him! My vet and I are taking care of everything to keep him in top notch condition, records (or knowing that he hadn't been to the vet) just would have made things easier. I couldn't have asked for a nicer dood! I am totally in love with him!
