Since December when we rescued Sampson, we only hear him bark at people or when he wanted out of the car or back inside. Usually when he is excited and happy he just jumps around and spins in circles with his whole but wiggling...
Well, the other night we were going to the track to try and teach him to run with me and we told him we were going for a ride and a run. When we let him outside he ran around the lawn and let out a HAPPY BARK! And then later that night my Mom was knocking at the door to let her in and he gave another small happy bark. We are just so excited here because he has grown from such a sad little doodle to our very own loving and happy Sammy-doodle and that was the first time he had a voice that matched his excited body language.

But at home he won't even go in the same room as Daddy. Except at night when Sampson is already resting and Daddy comes over to pet him then Sam gives him kisses and acts normal. But if Daddy calls for Sam or I call him and Daddy is enar, Sammy will run away and avoid Dad as best he can... It's weird and Dad is getting frusterated because he wanted a dog more than any of us.

it sounds to me like your dad and Sam are making progress. I know it must be tough for him, but I would tell him to continue to be patient. Annmarie told me that with a rescue/rehome dog you will often notice progress about once every 6 months. It's been about 6 months for you guys

sometimes i wonder if Sampson is doing a bonding game with your DAD and eventually they'll be close the way your dad envisions
I love good news though and hearing your story of Sampson barking the happy bark is heartwarming!
