Our last dog was a rescue Border Collie http://www.adoptgracie.com, named Gracie. On the way home from the shelter, we decided on the name "Gracie", because she came all the way to Long Island from a rescue group in Tennessee. We thought "Tennessee - Graceland - Gracie". And since she was so elegant looking, with her shiny black coat and her sleek white paws (like long gloves), we figured that "Gracie" was a movie star name, something classic and classy that fit her "look" perfectly.
So when we got our little Labradoodle puppy, we wanted another classic movie star sort of name. My wife picked "Cooper" (like Gary Cooper), even though it didn't have the vowel at the end that works so well in training - we figured the hard "C" and hard "P" would make it distinctive enough to him. But whenever someone meets him, they say "oh, "Cooper"! Like the car, a Mini Cooper!" So despite our best efforts for a classic name, we're victims of popular culture and modern fads. Sigh. |

I actually didn't get to name Ari since we adopted him at 10 months of age and he already had the name.
My husband and I had a hard time with the name Ari and for some reason we kept wanting to say "Marley". We were going to try and change his name, but I figured since he already knew to come by the name "Ari" that we probably shouldn't change it. We get a lot of weird looks when people hear his name. I looked his name up and "Ari" is hebrew for "Lion". I'd say that suits him well!
