Wow, we are going through a lot of casts this week! Monday was the first, Tuesday he needed to get the outer layer changed (the poop incident), Wednesday I did a little patchwork because of his snacking habit (I had even given it a few sprays with bitter apple to deter the chomping) and Thursday he ate half of it while I was in the shower. He was wearing his elizabethan collar. So we got a new cast yesterday and a bigger collar. Seems to be working so far. I do not see any nibble marks. I had to even enlarge his crate because his head is taking up more room! He is a good sport though, still having fun frolicking around with cast and collar.
I have a few friends that think the situation with Matey is funny in a loving way. I spent this winter and spring in a variety of casts for ligament and cartilidge damage on my left ankle, so they are used to seeing someone limping around our house. I did not care for the taste of the cast though! Gene if I remember correctly, Jonah felt that the bandages on his paw were yummy too, right?

Oh yes......we went through 8 pairs of little boy socks, 3 boxes of bandages, 2 pairs of outdoor boots! I think that cost more than the vet appointment!!

Gene, I have stolen the socks from my 8 year old son's drawer, but where do you find the outdoor boots? To keep the cast dry outside I have an IV bag that is cut open on one end with a lace through the top to tie around his leg, then I put the sock over it.

Petsmart was where I got mine. At the time they were on sale. We too used the IV bag with rubber band, but was a pain getting it on and keeping it on. The boots had velcro so they worked a little better.

Good luck and a fast and low pain labor for you - do you have names picked out? I'd try wrapping the whole cast in duct tape, prob harder to chew through than the cast with Mollyann when she had leg surgery, we duct taped the socks on |
