Default My Baby Knocked His Noodle !!

My poor Jasper spent Friday at the vet hospital !!! We had to leave him there, it was awful!!!

On Thursday afternoon, I left work early due to a horrible headache. So when I got home needed to lie down and take a nap. Well my baby wanted to cuddle with me, which is not unusual- he is a 'lil cuddle bug. I was stroking his head and just trying to relax and I noticed a huge bump below his eye. I sat up and immediately began to inspect his whole face...

I found a massive, massive bump on the right side where his snout meets his face- like where the tear stains would be...He has an ear infection and I thought maybe he had a reaction in his sinuses from the medicine in his ear, or maybe he got bit by a spider, I didn't really think it was from an impact or trauma...

...On Wednesday he went to the vet for his ear, he had an ear infection in his right ear, so he was at the vet and he was looked over then. The vet looked at his teeth and eyes and ears, so she would have noticed this large of a knot...

So, Todd and I decided to wait until the am to take him to the vet. Just to see if it went down on its own. We figured it was not such a big deal. On Friday morning the bump had grown even larger!!! Like a cherry tomato!!! I freaked out and we took him in to the vet. She shaved his face to get a better look and to look for bite marks or red and irritated skin. There was nothing. After she evaluated him she biopsied a bit and it turned out to be a giant hematoma! So, she said he needed to go under anesthesia so she could drain it and irrigate it! How in the heck did he do this to himself?!?!?! The vet said she didn't think it happened during play/rough housing with Tux since that kind of impact would have broken the skin...

Anyway, we were able to pick him up that night and he was still soo loopy! lol ... he didn't know what was going on, poor baby...

We have kept it moist and clean over the weekend, the vet said if it didn't get smaller and drain and start to heal, then he would have to be admitted to have a tube put in to drain it...

Thank goodness it has gotten better! It is still large but not nearly as big as it was!!!

Here are two pictures from this morning...it is much better- trust me- than it was on Friday...

My poor Jasper, we think he was playing fetch with one of us and the ball probably went in the kitchen by the cabinet and he slid into the bottom of the cabinet, cuz the way his snout fits under there...but we aren't surebut it had to have happened after Wednesday night and before Thursday afternoon...

…but he should be fine...we go in to the vet in the morning to have a follow up...

Thanks for listening!! I really freaked out; I thought he was in some serious doo-doo!!

Oh poor Jasper & you! Glad to hear that he is improving! When CeCe was about 5 months, she grabbed up a magazine & ran out the door with me following. The wind blew the pages into her eyes and she ran full speed into a brick planter. She went down and was dazed. I was so scared that she had hurt herself badly but after about 30 seconds she popped up, grabbed the magazine, and took off. My husband and I stood there still shaking but she was just fine. They obviously have very tough heads! I on the other hand still freak out when she runs to close to the planter. I bet it won't take Jasper long to make a full recovery.

Okay.....call me an emotional, anxious, over reactive person.....and well......I guess you'd be right!
But this story just broke my heart! Poor little guy! They are so playful and full of life and love that they CAN get hurt.....and be tough as nails.
I am sooooo happy Jasper is improving!
Dang! These doodles are like our little kids and we hurt so much for them!!
