Default Poor, pathetic, wounded Bogart :(

We took a mini-vacation last week to beautiful Lake Michigan! Bogart LOVES it there and we have gone since he was a puppy.......but missed last year.

I have several videos of him running the beach and playing in the water from the past somewhere on this forum.
This year, he hurt his paws in the sand the first day. We weren't really aware of it until the 2nd day. When we got there, he took about 20 steps in the deeper sand and laid down.
We recalled that one other time, he did the same thing when he was a 1 year old. He had sore paws then, so it dawned on us that this could be the problem.

The thing is, is to get him down to the hard packed sand and water as it's the loose, deep sand that apparently gets him. BUT! Carrying a 68 pound doodle to the waters edge isn't an easy task!

This video, now, makes it obvious that his paws were hurting as he wasn't as responsive and playful the 2nd day.

SO! We checked him out and sure enough, he had RAW webs between his toes and was licking profusely.
I called our vet back home and they did nothing but scare the beejeezuz out of me. "Well.....he could be infected. He could have glass or something in there."
Went to the pharmacy and bought a triple antibiotic cream....gauze....tape....and women's ankle socks.
We bandaged him up and walked the city streets where everyone was AWWWWING the poor, wounded doodle.
We got tired of explaining the story of "the socks"...so we just started telling people we were creating a new style!

Boy! Did Bogart ever play this one up!!
He walked around like someone had abused him and he appeared humiliated by the socks......so for 2 days, he hung his head low as if to say, "Ohhh, pity me! Pity me!"

Here's the pathethic doodle.
BTW.....we took the stuff off at night and let him heal himself. But, I didn't want raw paws exposed to the dirt and possible parasites a new community might have.
He's just fine now!
I LOVE THAT LITTLE BOYS SHIRT...100% BOY.....AND HE SURE WAS!

Smile

Sorry, Linda, I had to laugh at Bogart, although I know he was hurting.
The socks was a brilliant idea.
Where do you live?
I need to post photos of Brenna, she is now 22 lbs and just a clown but smart as a whip. She makes everyone smile but just had her last shots yesterday so is still kind of home bound.

No problem with a laugh here! He was playing this up big time and it was funny!
I live in Michigan......but too far from beautiful Lake Michigan. I talked to a woman who has a Labradoodle and lives near the Lake. She said her doodle runs on the beach so much that he has developed calloused and tolerant paws so as to take these runs and have no problem.
So, Bogart is just a little tenderfoot.
