Question Weird Labradoodle game...?

Hi,

I randomly came across this website when 'googling' labradoodles out of absolute boredom, and I have read quite alot of funny stories, that just sound waaaaay to familiar with my Labradoodle, Wookiee. So I signd up.

I used to think it was just him, but there seems to be a pattern with some of the weird behaviours he has, and what i've read about other doodles on this site.

So, it all started a couple of years ago, just as he was big enough to fit a tennis ball in his mouth, we started to hear repetative noises, like bouncing. At first we thought it was just a school kid walking down the road, on his way home. But every time we checked out the window, there was no one, just wookiee standing on the driveway.

It went on for months, eventually we decided that it was a weird frog that occasionally lives in the drain pipes of the house (as weird as that sounds, it made sense at the time ).

Until one day, I came home from the shops with a new tennis ball for him, which got Wookiee all excited and ready to play, he tooke the ball from me parading it around showing everyone one, then started to bounce it! He actually bounces it. He drops it out of his mouth and catches it on the bounce, all the while, running and jumping around doing all these tricky moves...

My question for everyone, has anyone experienced this behaviour with their Labradoodle? Do they bounce and catch their ball all on their own?

He also does this other thing where he will place a ball in a hole, bucket, even a spare tyre on the ground, and then run and get someone to get it out for him....

WELCOME TO OUR FORUM PATRICE & WOOKIE!!

I LOOOVE that name ......WOOKIE! How cute!

It sounds like Wookie is a very happy and playful little doodle!
No...I haven't noticed that Bogart ever has bounced a ball and caught it by himself several times. That's too sweet!
However, Bogart does find many ways to entertain himself. It just seems to be part of their personalities! They are all so bright!

Glad you joined us and we look forward to some pictures!

Hi Patrice - welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new here myself, along with our labradoodle, Murphy.
That is a great game Wookie plays - entertains himself. The only thing I'd be concerned about with regular tennis balls is the 'fuzz' on the ball. Murphy would secretly pull the fuzz off - until one day when she hacked up a fur ball . I've switch to those orange 'chuckit' balls. Even our Golden Retriever can't destroy those.
Regards,
Bill

Roxy doesn't catch the balls on the bounce but she definitely throws them, and any other toy.
