Here are the tricks Cruiser learned in the two weeks that we got him. We did very little the first week and used that as an adjustment. Then the second week, we hit the books and began training 15 minutes each morning. Here is the utube video of Cruiser doing< sit, lie down, greet (shake), belly, speak.

Very cute video. Thanks for posting it. You can really tell you love Cruiser
We just finished beginner obedience and the one thing they kept emphasizing is to not say a command over and over. Dogs have great hearing and if they dont listen its because we didnt get their attention first or they choose not to listen or dont know the commnand. Now that Cruiser knows the words you just have to work on holding his attention and only giving the command once. They said repeating it teaches them they dont have to listen to you the first time you say something, which may be disasterous when they run out the front door towards the road and you say COME and they dont listen until the 3rd time. That was the big picture take home emssage from the class. |

That was awesome! Lucy knows sit, paw and down at 8 weeks, but only in the house! Forget about it if she is outside. I thought it would be easier, but looks like an OB class is the way to go for us!

The way we taught Cruiser who is normally calm and quiet, was to "Say Please" while holding his dish of food up in front of him prior to feeding each meal. He'd look at us and make this "Say whaaaaaaaaaaaat??" expression, so we imitating a calm bark. He then gave us a little "ruff" and we said "Good Boy" and placed his meal down. Now he knows when we give the command, "Say PLEASE" he responds, "Ruff" and he also at this time will respond to "Whisper" by barely making a "ruff" sound. I can post the video if you like. Cindy
