SERIOUSLY!
Bogart sees a camera or cell phone pointed at him and automatically turns his head and will NOT look at us? When I think of all the great, missed photo ops, it ticks me off! If I happen to catch a picture of him, like the one in my avatar, it is by pure accident! It's so frustrating! Whenever I take him places, he greets people with the most precious SMILE & such JOY in his eyes!......I try to whip out my Blackberry.....he sees it, turns his head and will not turn back! GRRRRRRRRRR Anyone else have this dilemma?? So many of you have pictures that look like your doodle is posing! Any suggestions? I seriously want to have a professional picture taken of him with me for my job photo.......ummm...........doesn't look like it will happen! That would be so COOL if it just could happen!!

Well, all I can do is make a guess..he doesn't know it's a camera or a blackberry but he does know that it is rude (and can be interpreted as a hostile gesture) to look directly at another animal. Maybe he can see his reflection in the lens and thinks it is another dog? I don't know if it will work, but I would try de-sensitizing him to it, put it on the floor and when he gets close to it reward him, when he gets more comfortable looking at it while its on the floor, pick it up and try to get him to want to get close to it while you hold it, after that, just hold it up as you would if you were to take a picture and get him used to that- then when he's comfortable around it I think it should be ok.
Our dogs are smart but their minds work different than ours. One day he was outside and saw a black trash bag blowing around outside our fence, he went nuts..he never gets that upset! I am guessing that he thought the smell/sound of coyotes that is ever present around our house was coming from this plastic bag and it just freaked him out. I could have just picked the bag up, but instead I took him out of the yard and we approached the bag a few feet at a time, I gave him treats whenever he would obey a sit while seeing the bag. After about 45 minutes he was standing at the bag, smelling it- he then walked away totally disinterested.

Awwww he's shy!!!
Layla is a camera hog, someone can pull out treats or a camera and I swear she's like CHEEEEESEEEEEE. However the rare times I want to get her picture and she isn't cooperating, I do watch me with a treat right above or behind my Blackberry. That is what I normally use to get pictures of her. |

LOL......I WISH I could call it shy........Bogart is majorly conceited and bold!
Great advice, Lynne! I might try that! Bogart goes nuts when he sees strange things like trash bags.....or this past November, out neighbors placed a torn up pumpkin next to the fence........OR......he went nuts when he first saw the BBQ in the yard.. Also, on walks, these blow up thingies like snowmen, turkeys etc......

Lucy turns her head also, I was wondering if they can see the inferred of the auto focus.
But I don't know.

I use food a lot to get them to like the camera! After millions of pictures they just gave up and figure the whole camera shoot thing ends faster if they just smile and let me shoot!
