Pretty basic class #1, nothing we couldnt have done for free at home, but it is getting us organized to get this done and more importantly it was great socialization for her. It is an all positive reward style, interupt and redirect negative behaviours, absolutley no punishment, so no worries there. 9 more classes to go. We had a few puppies in the class, a black Lab and a Boxer were our favourites. 1 h class = 1 very tired out puppy.
The most interesting thing I learned in the class wasn't about trining Aero at all. The instructer shows/trians her own St. Bernards and she says she purposefully doesnt teach her dogs "sit" and doesnt allow anyone to praise/pet them if they do, because in the show ring you dont want that behaviour when stopped and being evaulated by the judge. Interesting. |

you're quite right Todd but in the class i do they do have people going on to show dogs and we learned how to give the signal
to stand and/or say it as well and MAX doesn't sit unless he gets the hand signal and stands till he does. I LOVE OB classes we did! we also learned sometimes your dog is doing things correctly and WE can be the reason for errror, confusion, or a halfway command being done. So I learned alot about my mental attitude, posture and doing my homework too when training Max, beau and peanut. it's funny when anyone says SIT MAX or SIT PEANUT and they won't they ask why.........I tell them " you didn't use the hand signal" OH we did same training like you stated TODD and it's great here it's called the Vollhard Positive Reinforcement method and with Max we worked towards NO treats , only praise and quick pat or hug from me BUT if i am attempting something new or dangerous (like lettign them out off leash alone due to my surgery) then i use treats all for 2 rasberries too haaaaaaaaaa

I LOVE OB classes!
Not only are they good for the puppy but good for the human in many ways! First, they provide a good giggle or ten.........as they flop around and show their personalties. Next.........it IS about training US! When we had Vladae, Bogart's last trainer.......he insisted we forget everything we ever learned and do it "his way"! Yep.....the sit, down and stand! Stand wasn't the simplest thing to learn, but it was the way we were taught to position our hands on Bogart that got him to learn the difference and he did it well! Todd, do you train all your pups......or are you keeping Aero??

Todd , I REALLY like your wife
and when you visit later this year in warmer weather BRING The whole gang we have enough room. YES all 3 dogs, and family. Besides you might want to read/thumb through my book of genetics by Little. Later i wonder if you could get a picture of AERO as he gets a tad older with another pic of his form/lines I love when they're tail is straight out and it's the 180 degree perfection and legs in correct stance .....when they point it's so cute OH wait, MAX points when he knows an animal is in woods or a friend who hunts is up the tree MAX grew up with the field irish setter teaching her pups how to point and once in a great while peanut (GD) points now
