Default McGee's big day...

is next Monday. He goes under the knife for the big snip. I find it intriguing how many people around here ask 'are you really having him neutered? Why?' with a straight face.

So many people are uninformed about pet overpopulation and the damage that an intact dog will do to continue this problem. Good for you to get him neutered. We have to do a lot of education when we sell puppies to make sure people understand how important it is to spay/neuter.

Make sure to buy him a nice treat or two for the recovery. Poor guy.

I have been asked why we got Beck neutered, and I tell people that unless you are going to breed, neutering a male makes him a better pet. You eliminate or reduce marking behaviour, and the neutered male will not be inclined to wander off from your yard in search of romance. The doggie day care we take Beck to does not allow intact dogs over 8 months of age, they said they don't want to spend their time trying to prevent 'accidental breedings' and that intact males are more likely to take 'playing' to another level and start fighting.

Heal fast McGee! Keep us posted!

I also wanted to mention testicular cancer. I had a beautiful Bouvier who fathered 24 pups. We didn't get him neutered afterwards and the poor guy got cancer. I guess that's another good reason to neuter too.

Well, dropped him off a while ago, get him back in the morning. Gotta go find a good treat now.

Oh, that is the hardest part...having them gone from home.

I trust that he is finished with surgery and is recovering well!

Called this afternoon and they said everything went well and he's doing fine, but was still drowsy from the anesthesia.

Also had him micro-chipped.

Sounds like things are right on schedule! Now, comes the tough part, keeping him still for 10 days! Good luck!

Glad to hear everything went well......and unless you breed a dog then neutering/spaying is a responsible thing to do.
hugs to McGee......and hopes he heals really fast.

Just brought him home (I was on the road a while today and thought it better to leave him with the vet til I could bring him home and be with him). He sure doesn't seem any worse for wear! Still jumpy, still pulls the leash to get to people. This should be fun.

He's still for now tho:

Gotta watch him tho, he'll have that thing gone by dinner if I let him!

Yep, I know the drill...I actually started buying the same cheap black tennis shoe from RITE AID!! Same size, and I'd buy 5 pair at once...that way, when one was chewed up, I always had a spare.
