HI everyone!!! as many of you know i had major cervical spinal cord surgery and with it being winter and having a 4mos min recouperation
i am NOT allowed to walk my dogs and i live on 6 acres complete with woods, wild animals, creek size of river etc and i do NOT have a fenced in area either. Soooooooo am i happy in the past i had done whistle training which NOW doesn't need to be used. For almost 2mos now MAX n Peanut sit in the kitchen , THEY each get A RASBERRY i then walk downstairs to let them out teh back basement door to run/play and go potty but 1st i give them "the Talk" about STAYING in OUR YARD and do not go to the neighbors where the horses are 5 to 20min later they come back running to the FRONT DOOR and run to the kitchen sit and wait YES FOR a RASBERRY DAVE finally started doing this as he is amazed they don't take off, stay in our yard and all for a RASBERRY I say it's also not just the Rasberry it's all the love and praise they get the moment they're back at the front door as i PRAISE them tremendously, hug and kiss them. I too cannot believe i may have to blow the whistle ONCE every 2 weeks if one is gone too long as YES i worry even though i know they will be at the front door. : PS a few times in past i forgot about them but MAX gives a GREAT MIGHT WOOF to let me knwo they're waiting

OKay I got to try the raspberry thing...LOL because absolutely um NO my doods would not do that. LOL. Luckily we have a fenced in yard.
Once (well actually twice) but once, Henry ran out the front door, dang screen door just flew open, I thought I had it closed and OUT he bolted. After 20 minutes of trying to get him back with every treat in the house - and Henry was about 3 blocks away, I finally hopped in the car with Issac and when we got close to Henry, I told Issac to open up his door and call Henry to him. FINALLY Henry came to the car when Issac called and hopped right in, and back home we went. Peanut and Max are freaking AWESOME!!!! |

Nope, my dogs are not trained...when they see an opening...they run! They always come back when they are through exploring, covered in ticks and burrs...but they come home. Thank goodness...
Some of my dogs will look around, when they are out, and think..."Hmmm, now, where do I want to go? Oh, yeah, to the back door!" and they will come in...and they get loads of treats and love...but there are always 3 or 4 that keep going...and I panic...and pray. We are double fencing everything now...I hope that one day will will have the full 8 acres fenced, double fenced...so that they can't get out, even when they get out. |

I can't afford the fencing as my yard around the house is not user-friendly to fencing
(septic tank, leach field, etc) Seriously the whistle training helped tremendously which led me to finally try letting out loose alone i was scared and worried but when they came back i'd say 'OK good , now go to the front door" but i immediately give the RASBERRY hahhahaaaaaaa treat ...sometimes it's cheese NOW i also wonder if they sense my injury/surgery and that's why they're also being so good. it would make sense as I am home with them, do training when i can, and we've bonded really close. i'd recommend the whistle training with treats then work to NO TREATS sometimes i do the YOU GET THE TREAT when YOU COME BACK
