This weekend we went on our first multi-doodle walk. I usually take them seperately since Henry needed a little retraining on how to walk on loose leash without the reminder of the prong collar (what his previous family made him wear on walks). I think I got more of a work-out than the doodles. They both needed to have a refresher course on how to walk on loose leash together. But they did pretty good.
Anyway - we got a lot of questions about what kind-of dogs they were and lots of comments on how pretty they were. We even stopped traffic once for a lady to comment on how gorgeous Henry was. LOL. This one man though - UGH! He came off his porch to ask me about their breed. He asked about Henry, I said labradoodle. Than Samson - labradoodle. Then he proceeded to tell me that I was wrong. That it is not possible for a breed to look so different in two different dogs. And he's never even heard about labradoodles. Did I just make that name up? He said Henry is a poodle and Samson is probably some mixed breed. Of course I got defensive - who is this guy to tell me what my doodles are? So I spent some time explaining what a doodle was - generational differences - and that the breed is know for diversity in color - size - coat type - and body structure. I was SOOOO frustrated. Than he said "well fine" and walked away. LOL. THE NERVE! |

This happens a whole lot from what I have heard right here at this forum.
I am fortunate to never have had this happen to me. Question.......Is it correct to say that Labradoodles ARE a breed in Australia? I usually tell people they are, but we don't want them to be considered a breed here. Comments?

hahahaha...good one! I have it made...no one would dare to continue to speak badly about our dogs after I tell them that we breed puppies to be donated as service dogs...they would seem very heartless! LOL Of course Labradoodles are a breed. They are just not a "recognized" breed...meaning that the big social clubs, the AKC and others won't recognize them. Well, that doesn't mean that they are not a breed... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breed |

Well to me, labradoodle is a breed and a breed with a pretty cool name too. Henry gets mistaken as a poodle, even by children. Which I can totally understand - he's lean, tall and has the curly - white coat of a poodle. Poor little Samson though gets mistaken for a sheep dog most often. I've never seen a perfectly black sheep dog, but hey - whatever. I just couldn't believe this guy actually started correcting me. LOL!!!
On the plus side though - the doodles had been very arony the entire walk, but for this guy they sat by my sides perfectly still. They may not behave all the time, but they certainly know WHEN to behave so not to embarass Mom while she's defending their breed. LOL. |
