Well Samson really loves socks. He digs in the laundry baskets to find socks...doesn't chew on anything else, just picks out the socks or my pantyhose and chews. He's even started "trading" his dog toy in for socks. He'll take his chew toy to the laundry basket, set it inside and than pick out his sock.
Leave it works for the current sock-in-mouth but he quickly goes back for another. Leave it for the laundry basket works for awhile. I've tried shutting all my doors that contain laundry baskets to keep him out, and that's an easy fix...but I live in an older house and for some reason I need all the doors open to heat/cool the house eveningly. He won't pick out any other items of clothes - and nope doesn't chew on shoes, big pile of shoes in the living room and he's never touched a single one. Guess I'll bring it up with the trainer Thursday - Samson's LOVE of socks!! LOL! Mainly just scared that he'll be able to swallow one of Issac's small socks. Got to admit though - smart little bugger - being able to JUST pick out the socks and nothing else. |

Charlie loves socks too -- he has swallowed a couple and thankfully he has thrown them all back up. He seems to have outgrown the habit now (knock on wood) -- either that or we have been better about where we put them.....regardless I was always amazed at how he could swallow them in the first place.

Ha ha ha!! Crazy doodles!
Linus digs through the laundry basket to find the fabric softener sheet. That's all he wants. And he just carries it around - doesn't chew it up or anything. He also pulls one of my kitchen towels from the cabinet handle and leaves it on the floor. There are two right next to each other, but he only messes with the one. Sure wish I knew what he is thinking...

I think there was another post about this last year as well. Snickers LOVES socks - dances around them, carries them around in his mouth, etc. Not interested in underwear or anything else - just socks (whoops -take that back - he used to eat pencils/pens, but he seems to mostly be off that kick!)
So the sock thing was all well and good - at worst, we had a bunch of mismatched pairs at any given time. However, last March we added Junior, a Shih Tzu/Poodle rescue to our family. Junior also love socks (and underwear, etc.). Unfortunately, in a very short time, he can chew through the toe, practically up to the ankle ... So we don't have the luxury of leaving socks around or they end up destroyed! Snickers and my daughter below... I don't have any pics of Junior chewing one up..... LOL what an adorable picture!! You should've seen my house yesterday, I didn't feel good - and Samson took advantage of it. SOCKS all over the living room floor - he kept going to the laundry basket and getting more out.
UGH!!! |

Samson's Mom,
Oh, did Abbey love socks . . . she would pick one up and run all over the house. I was very careful not leave them around, but if I left one out watch out. At first it took the two of us to get the sock back. Eventually, one of us could get it back. Pretty soon I could ask her to sit and drop the sock. Then she would see us coming and she would just drop it. Eventually, she lost interest. So I'll bet Samson will out grow his love of socks!

oh boy does this sound familiar!!! Ozzie just loves it when he can get his cavernous mouth on a sock! We've had to buy clothes hampers with lids because if there was a laundry basket around with socks....look out! The Oz-man will be in his glory. Last summer we built a deck and he didn't get his usual dose of attention so he decided to get even with me. One day while my husband and I were out, you-know-who got on the dining room table and helped himself to my new camcorder!!! He wanted to send a message that he wanted more attention so he ate the controls off beyond repair. I was beyond mortified but it sent a message loud and clear to HEY!!! PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEE!!! Now he just likes to carry socks around which is a lot more tolerable. haha He had some issues when we got him due to the living conditions. Poor thing spent most of his time in a dirt hole under a porch or stuffed inside a crate.

Oh, Ozzie would fit perfectly into our family! We finally got all of the dogs past the chewing phase and, wouldn't you know it, we got another puppy! Well, this one is a counter surfer and she reached up, got my purse (the handle was dangling just within her reach)...she destroyed my cell phone and my ($6000) hearing aids...!! She had the money scattered all over the floor...
Oh, well...who can get mad at a face like hers? They are soooo innocent! |
