We do it, in a round about way. They get held in all the positions in the course of daily weighing and our cuddling of them. We don't do the cold shock treatment, just think its too harsh. I cant tell if it makes a difference, but I have read some of the army "super dog" stuff and it makees sense. As a small breeder I cant really test to see it it makes a difference since we cant really measure the output variables it is supposed to affect. I just like holding them, so we do it. I think more than the neurostimulation, the more they are held by humans early on, the more they associate our sent and touch with good things, and it helps them become "people dogs". I can say that the puppies that get bottle fed 2-3 times / day for 3 weeks are more people attentive earlier than their littermates, but who knows if that difference lasts. Once they start getting treats from their new family I think that wins them over too.

I agree with Todd...I tried the early stimulation, followed it exactly and I found no difference at all in the pups.
We also hold and handle (kiss and touch) our pups...I always love getting "puppy hickies" on my chin when they try to nurse...hahaha I know that the minute they open their eyes, they associate me with good things...probably from scent and previous love too, but after about 3 weeks, when they hear my voice or see me enter a room, every puppy swarms to rush to me...they each get their share of loves and touching every time too! One thing that I am certain of is that our pups are loving, people-oriented, social babies...and I just didn't see any advantage to the toe tickling (q-tip) or cold surface...although we do hold them in various ways and angles... |
