Her temp dropped earlier today to 98.5. Dont know exactly when, I didnt start taking it until noon today and it was already there. She is panting heavy now, but no contractions. She is pretty uncomfortable. She is also picking up every one of Finn stuffed animals and collecting them in the whelping box and digging around in the towels. Her mothering instincts are kicking in! My wife is catching some zzzz's while I stay up on puppy watch. I'll wake her when the action starts. I just hope it doesnt take all night. I'l post here as well for the night owls and the west coasters.

Whow, what a morning. Gus has been great. He is outside in the yard quiet as a mouse. He normally howls if he is outside without us or Hershey and he knows we are inside doing something without him. He must sense it. What a good boy. I'll make him some stew later.
3 1/2 hours in, 8 puppies. all chocolate, a few small mismarks. Hershey is amazing. She is doing everything herself, we have had to do very little besides break the sac, and weigh them, and reposition them at her teats. Oh, and clean up a mess. She had the first puppy "sleeping" on our leather couch. Is handled it surprisingly well, wiped up in a flash. I think I may make the whelping box out of leather next time for easy to clean ![]()

Oh!!! Congratulations Todd and Hershey!!! (Good boy Gus!)
They are beautiful!!! I know what you mean about the sounds...nothing better... Mismarks! Good sign...any boys? When you get a minute (yeah, right.) take a look at the pads of their feet...I am told by a parti expert that parti factored pups will have two colors on their foot pads...light and darker...but that the markings go away when they are a few weeks old...still, those with markings are said to be parti factored. I'd be curious to see if this is true... I am so very happy! The pups are gorgeous...and they all look to have GREAT coats! |

Oh, I am so excited! (Can you tell by the way I am first to respond to every new post???)
They do have lovely coats...and I am seeing a few pink toes...so, by all means, we need to document the dual colored foot pads, the mismarks and the boys! LOL Looks like you have a red ribbon pup with pink toes AND a white tummy....a boy, per chance? |
