I just thought with all the doodle illness/accidents that we could use a good story.
We have neighbors who let their dog run the "neighborhood". Ok, we live in the country, and not a subdivision so the "neighborhood" is a long ways. They've had numerous complaints but to no avail. His name is "Buster and he's a Norwegian Elk Hound (did I spell that right?). He came over to our house this morning, nothing unusual. This morning though, Cinnamon was in an energy mode. I don't know why, maybe it was the snow. Anyway, I let her out of the back yard to play (we live a good 400 feet off the road) and they did play. Racing around the yard, wrestling, mostly chasing each other. They quit for a breather and Buster starts to wander toward the road, which is a real busy road in and out of town. Speed limit is a suggested 55mph. I call Cinnamon and she came right up to me and went into the back yard, just like she was supposed to. No looking back to see if I was serious, just came right to me. She's been through the "you don't go past this spot" daily, so I know it was repetition that did it. Buster changed his mind and went home, too. Now that's the good part of the story!! |

Cinnamon, you are not only a good doodle but a good influence on your friends.
Congratulations on some good training! Charlie and Wayne play off-leash in a nearby park. One side borders a fairly busy street and while they know not to go near the street and respond to my whistle, I'm always a little nervous when they get down to that side of the park. We find it best to stay far away from the busy street and not push our luck. Deb
