Tyke and I just had a frightening experience! The sun finally peeked through the clouds, so Tyke and I went for a walk to get rid of our cabin fever. We were headed home, when we saw a dog that Tyke had met and played with a few days ago. Because they had played so well together, I didn't shorten Tyke's leash and bring her close to me like I usually do when we meet strange dogs. Tyke went bounding up to this dog (a mixed breed just a little bigger than Tyke and about her age), tail wagging, and suddenly this dog jumped on her!!! Poor Tyke started yelping, and as she got away from the dog, her collar slipped over her head! Thankfully, she ran behind me and stopped when I yelled "Stay, Tyke!" Just then, this stupid dog goes for Tyke again, but unfortunately for her, she got just a little to close to Tyke's angry momma!! I know it wasn't the "nice" thing to do, but I gave that dog a good solid kick in the ribs that sent her flying backwards!!! When she got up, she took off running away from us. About that time, the lady in the nearest house came out to see if we were ok, because she heard Tyke yelping!!! We both checked Tyke out, and she didn't have any puncture marks anywhere, and was just scared, thank God. I think the dog was trying to show dominance more than really hurting Tyke, but I wasn't taking any chances. The lady said that the dog lived in the house behind her, and that she had started hanging out in her yard because of another dog that lived next door. She was going to call the owners and tell them what happened and to keep their dog out of her yard!
I don't think we will have any more problems with that dog. For one thing, I'll never let Tyke get that far away from me again when meeting a dog, even if it is a "friend." For another, I don't think that dog will be coming close to ME any time soon either! I'm sorry I had to hurt her, but don't mess with my baby!!!

Glad Tyke is ok Kim...it's very scary if another dog threatens your baby, well done for defending her! If I ever get to meet you I will be VERY respectful

Actually I was shaking when it was over - and so proud of Tyke! As scared as she was, she stopped in her tracks when I told her to "STAY" and came to me as soon as I called her. (even when that stupid dog rushed her again! ) I've always wondered if she would really listen in an emergency, and I'm glad to know that she will!

I just found out from my cousin/sister Pam ( we are the same age, and were raised within a few blocks of each other - it's easier just to tell people we are sisters!) that this same stupid dog lives next door to her mom, and climbed the fence and jumped Shoney, her labradoodle a few weeks ago! Not only that, but my uncle lives right across the street from where Tyke was attacked. Mom went over there a few days ago to walk my uncle's Shih Tzus when he was out of town, and the same stupid dog tried to come after them!!! (BaBa said she had picked up a stick and yelled at the dog -evidently the dog must have realized who she was messing with!!! ) The owner is an attorney, whom I know, and I think she will be getting a phone call from me tomorrow - she has a walking liability in the neighborhood!

Ryder, you are such a little hero-in-training!!! You are going to grow up to be just as wonderful a dog as your big brudder! You take care of him too, 'til he feels better, ok???
