I took both dogs out for their usual walk to the trail by my house yesterday
I am currently training Ryder for off leash walking and this is a good place for that. Both dogs are off leash and running and playing and Denver decides to go the forbidden area . The trail is straight and goes on for miles but there is a fork in the road and if you go that way a ditch with disgusting fowl water runs the lenght of the pathway. Ok I am thinking he will not try to swim in there as he can surely see and smell how bad it is this time of year. Well apparently he decided he would like to get rid of the lingering skunk smell or whatever he thought and he jumped on it . It is a bit of a steep embankment and he could not climb up and he was getting stuck in the mud in the bottom. Ryder who had enough water when he accidently fell in at the beach is trying to see what Denver is doing but he does not want to go in. I am now inching my way down the embankement to drag Denver's butt out of there, while keeping my hand on Ryder to keep him from falling in.............how I manged to do that I still do not know because I remember thinking that Ryder is going to fall in and there is nothing I can do about it. Instead I was able to grab hold of Denver's collar and one good pull and he was able to get a foothold and climb back out. For those of you who do not know, Denver got skunked this week so now you have to imagine that when he came out of that ditch the skunk smell came back full force and we were a pitiful threesome walking back home which thank goodness is only about 6 minutes from my house. Once home Denver immediately had to have another bath you think that alone would deter him from getting anymore yucky smells on him but I guess not. While bathing him I discovered that something in the ditch caught his front leg and he has an area of skin now exposed almost to the bone, about the size of twoonie. Thoroughly cleaned area and applied medication as I know from previous injury to his foot ,that this is the way to go............He will be going to vet later today to make sure I did all that should be done. My poor baby is just having the week from hell!!!!!!!! |

Oh, poor Denver! Imagine how he must have hurt! I am so glad you were able to get him out, Sue! Very scary! And, now that I know he is fine (after his surgery) I can relax...but, dang, it is so scary to hear that our doodle family is hurting!
