I went for a walk this morning with my Dad and Ryder and there was a cute little critter
in the middle of the school so I went to see what it was. It was walking right towards me and when it got real close I could hear my Dad screaming and yelling at me to come to him but I wanted to sniff the little critter and play so I smacked him with my paw and sent him tumbling and the little pest turned around and sprayed me with some disgusting fowl odour so then I did go running back to Dad, and he ended our walk, and took us home. Ryder tried to play with the skunk but he got scared and ran the other way. Mom was at home to greet us as she does every moring and she was not happy once we got through the door cause she said we all stank.................She is now taking the day off work and made us both have a bath but she sais we have to have a few more baths today.....that is not good She is gonna use vinegar and baking soda cause our neighbor had some luck with that concoction.............. Well I have to go now cause I have to have another bath..................... Woof woof Denver |

Oh Denver sweetie...whatever were you thinking when you saw
this???? One is bad enough Sue...but 3????Denver, Ryder and Hubby??? I'll bet he's getting razzed at work today..unless you're bathing him too.. I hope you now know not to go even NEAR this little guy anymore Denver!!! Tell your Mom that vinegar and water are the best remedy for de-skunking, and not to waste her money on anything from the pet store!

I have a friend who simmer vermouth on stove to get rid of strong odors from cooking, fish etc, could try that, or fill spray bottle with white vinegar and spray the air
Also, found these hints on the net Vinegar! Try placing vinegar in some bowls around the home overnight to remove the odor of the skunk in the house. It works on so many other odors and is natural and inexpensive...well worth trying. BAKING SODA, PEROXIDE AND DOG SHAMPOO REMEDY "Mix together 1/2 cup baking soda, 1 pint peroxide and 1 teaspoon dog shampoo. Immediately poor on dog and let stand a few minutes before washing out. This works wonderfully." "This was posted in a sportsman magizine. To remove skunk odor, mix together one quart of peroxide, one cup of baking soda and a squirt of Dawn dishwashing liquid. This has to be mixed at the time of use, can not be mixed and stored. The dawn breaks down the skunk odor oils and the peroxide and baking soda foam it away." |

Lets see hmmmmmmmmmmm
So far my house smells like vinegar, peroxide mixed with skunk and most of all burning rubber If this has ever happened to any of you the burning rubber is the lingering smell and it is like someone decided to burn about a thousand tires in my house...............The dogs are exhausted and they stink to high heavens of vinegar and skunk, the cats are crying and I am ready to go and sit in the corner and just cry , and Mary if I had some vermouth in the house I would not waste it on the stove, I would just get good and drunk.................bahhahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aa. The thing that works the best I am told is time........... Oh yeah that helps!!!!!!!!! Hubby feels awful cause he did not realize what was there untill it was too late. Denver had already swatted the critter Hubby said as they were hightailing out of the school the skunk was following them, I guess he had more to say.......... The problem with Denver is that he figures every creature outside is his playmate, hopefully now he will realize that they are not..................... |

Oh Sue, you have my heartfelt sympathy as we went through this last fall. We tried the peroxide/baking soda/dish soap mixture and a product from Petco called De-Skunk made by Synergy Labs. I don't know if one or the other or the combination was the the trick but it worked really well. What lingered was the spray that got up Cali's nose, so every time she would snuffle it would about knock you over. I can only imagine how much that must have burned inside her nose! I recently read a suggestion by a hunter to put straight Palmolive dish soap on to get the skunk odor out of their fur, but I have not tried this so have no idea. I put bowls of Nature's Miracle and some of vinegar around the house. Again, it's not very scientific when you attack everything with both barrels. You don't know what works but it's effective. Hugs to you all and I hope the air clears soon!

Oh I feel for you! Pringle and Jesse (my deceased lab) were skunked a number of times. Pringle learned from the experience and stayed clear of them ever after. unfortunately his sister learned she LOVED the little critters and believed them to be the BEST perfume for a lady of her stature.
Anyway, the only thing that really helped to deaden the smell was that peroxide concoction. As long as they stayed dry the skunkaroma wasn't noticeable. It can bleach their hair though. Jesse, the shiny black lab was quite brown that summer! Now, if your hubby let them into the house, you are doomed to smell skunk for a good long while. My neighbors were dog sitting the first time they were skunked and let them back into the house immediately after.
