Default Hagrid's First Hair Cut!

Hey all! I know we've been scarce since Christmas.. things have been a bit crazy here and I've been super busy. Hagrid started the big hair change and I decided to bite the bullet and clip all his hair off. First I tried to shave him with my hubby's hair shaver, but it wouldn't go through is massive amount of soft hair.. eventually I just went at it with the scissors and a comb! I was terrified that he would look like I'd attacked him with a week whacker, but he looks really good! I attribute it totally to the fact that he's pretty curly... the curls hide all the unevenness . It never even would have occurred to me to try with the scissors if I hadn't hear that other forum doodles had been hand trimmed. Here's a few before and after pics

A few days before the haircut....

And just after his haircut :P

Thanks everyone . He is actually way softer now that he's short. My theory is that the natural hair oils coudln't make it all the way out to the end of his long hair :P. I DO snuggle him pretty much all day all the time.. and he's a total snuggle monster too . He's weighing in at 27 kilo's these days which is around 60 lbs. It's actually his eight month birthday today.. so I don't think he'll get too much bigger.. maybe a bit heavier. When we chopped off all that hair there was a teenage body underneath!

It actually took a really long time... about 4 hours (with breaks).. but I was really slow. After I got the hang of it it went a lot faster .

Meredith, you did a really great job with Hagrid's haircut. Very Handsome Boy!
I know what you mean about the curly coat, it definitely hides any mistakes.
Rusty's coat is a straighter fleece coat and mistakes are very obvious
I love when you trim off the fur how skinny they look
Hagrid look very happy with his haircut too!

I think he is happy with it . Peter and were laughing saying that he lost his hair and became a punky teenager :P. I think he was a little hot even though it's really cold here right now. I definitely like being able to see his eyes better and it seems like his hair is healthier too.. but that could be because he's going through the dreaded change right now . And he looked way more "puppish" with short hair.. you could see how gangly he actually is! Before he just looked like a fluffy bear . And all I can say, is thank goodness for the curls! I'm sure he would look very patchy without them!

For a first timer you did great! He looks so handsome!

I cut Annie's hair with scissors and it is work. She has the thick fleece coat. I trim her at least every two weeks to keep a handle on it. That way it doesn't seem to take so long. I have purchased a pair of sheers but am afraid to try them.
