On vacation and missing my doodles!

We've always enjoyed traveling but I'm finding it harder and harder to leave my doodles for a vacation. They are at home with my son and I'm sure are well taken care of. Still, Matt called me today to say Charlie is vomiting. I'm pretty sure it is just stress. He has a sensitive tummy and always gets upset when I'm gone. That dog is SO attached to me!

Meanwhile, we have left cold and snowy Chicago and I spent the day on Ka'anapali beach on Maui. You'd think I could enjoy this without the guilt.

Seriously Deb, you should be enjoying that without the guilt! As I am sitting here in my house, with the heat on, and I am still cold!! Enjoy yourself. You know Matt has it all under control!

Know what you mean Deb...I've been putting Charlie in kennels for the odd day visit so that we can go out, but I spend most of the day clockwatching and worrying about that really reproachful look he gave me over his shoulder as he disappeared from view. Of course, he was fine when I picked him up If your son's in charge trust him to look after them and let you know of any problems...then relax and enjoy yourself and try to think of them no more than once a day! If you have a good time they'll have an even better time on your return

I am so jealous...Maui? You had better come back with some good photos to share. We went to Kauai and Big Island for our honeymoon but we want to go to Maui someday.

Try to not worry about the doodles. I seriously think it's good for them to learn some separation and I'm sure your son is taking good care of them and spoiling them

I understand though - I always feel guilty when we put Kirby in Camp Bow Wow. I don't feel the guilt for Dex because he is so social, but Kirby is a little different and I always worry that he is miserable.

It is so hard to leave our furbabies - but - you are in one of God's gorgeous places, so sit back, relax and enjoy - Matt will take care of the babies for you

MAUI!! OMGOSH!!!!! How awesome!!
For sure, you miss the doods. I completely understand.
When Bogart was a pup, we boarded him when we took the train to Chicago. Of course, I called all the time.
You are so fortunate to have your son home to watch them!! I would feel a great comfort in that.
So.....sit back.........take in the balmy air........stare at the ocean....take a dip.........and ENJOY!
It won't be long before you're freezing back here with us!!

Oh gosh - what a dream vacation!!!

I can totally understand your missing your *babies* though (I know that I would feel the exact same way)!!! Just know that your son is being an excellent substitute *parent* to them and that you'll be home before you know it (but first you need to just enjoy your wonderful trip - it'll be over all too soon).

Thank you ALL! I knew you'd understand. If I told anyone here that I was missing my dogs, I'm sure I'd get the eye roll.

We've got some other trips planned this year including a two week vacation this summer. I think, however, my future plans are going to be toned down a bit.

Leslie, you may be right that it is good for Charlie to learn how to deal with separation. I just wish he understand words so I could tell him I was coming back.

I can totally relate! A few years back we did the Alaskan cruise thing....we were gone a total of 14 days....I was going through serious withdraws!
I was chasing poor dogs down to get a scratch & a pet in where ever we went!! My family would point out the dogs to me then laugh when
I headed over to them.
Enjoy your vacation! I would LOVE to me out floating in the salt water right now....soaking up the sun & snorkling. I always feel so good after a week of sunshine when we go somewhere like that in the middle of winter!!!

You are a great mommy and it is okay to worry but do not let it spoil your trip. They are just fine at home and they will love you all the more when you get back. Have a great time!!!
