Default Tyke and Tindy Lou

We have a nightly ritual here in our house - about an hour before we go to bed, we let my cockatiel, Tindy Lou, out of her cage to fly around in the sunroom and socialize with us. (We can only do it after it gets dark - otherwise I'm afraid she would fly into one of the big windows and kill herself!) Tindy Lou ADORES Tyke, and tries to make friends with her, but Tyke is really a little afraid of her. (maybe that's not such a bad thing!) Although Tyke will go up to TL's cage and "talk" to her sometimes, she is much more wary when TL is flying around loose. To Tindy Lou's credit, she does keep trying to make friends. (Under VERY close supervision by BaBa and me, of course) Here's one of their encounters:

Tindy Lou: "Hi, Tyke, whatcha' doin'??"
Tyke: "OMG - here comes that flying monkey again! If I lie here really still, maybe she won't notice me!!!

Tindy Lou: 'YOOOOOOU HOOOOOOOO!!! TYKE!!! IT'S ME!!!!!!

Tyke: "You aren't gonna let her get me, are you Mom????"

Tindy Lou: "OOOOOOOH, I'D JUST LOOOOOVE TO GET MY CLAWS IN THOSE PRETTY CURLS!!!!! CAN I, TYKIE???? PRETTY PLEEEEEEEZ???"

Tyke: "Do it and DIE, Tweety Bird!!!!"

Tindy Lou: "Uh, I'll take that as a NO....."

Tyke: "Good Answer, you flying drumstick!!!! !"

very cute. I am surprised that Tyke just ignores her. At our house Tindy Lou would be great entertainment and maybe a snack for Humphrey

I think poor Tyke figures if she ignores her, Tindy Lou will just go away. Not so with our last dog! Fritzy would have gobbled her up in a second! We NEVER let the two of them out in the same room!!!

love the captions and LOVE how the dog ignores the bird!!! - I don't know what Hamish would do - the cat - he'd probably think TL was moving LUNCH!! - but then again he's partial to bunnies!!

Bahahahaha...great story and pics Kim!!!! We had a cockatiel by the name of Purdue (bought him in VA. and driving by the Purdue chicken factory chose that name for him.. and a maroon bellied conure named Roy..yep..after Roy Rogers chicken..hahahaha )..anyway, we always let Purdue and Roy out of their cages to play on top on their gym...our old chocolate lab Charlie loved Purdue and Roy....one day, Roy slid down the side of the cage, and hopped onto Charlies back...hanging on for dear life, and with Charlies fur between his claws, he took Roy for a ride around the living room...yeehaw...giddyup!!! Hahahahahaha...wish I had a camera for that one!!! Roy died 3 yrs. ago, so Raleigh never got the pleasure of meeting him... and Purdue we gave to a family that had 3 other cockatiels...Purdue got very lonely after Roy died, and Raleigh was way too interested in him, so I could never let him out of his cage..It killed me to give him away, because I had him for 15 yrs... but I felt it was only fair for Purdue so he could be happy toward the end of his life..

Brilliant Kim...so funny...Tyke looks as if he has the patience of a saint, but I expect you know otherwise!

I went to an owl sanctuary a couple of days ago and a baby morepork (a NZ owl) sat on my hand, then my shoulder then took his very first flight off my shoulder to the table. I was sooooo excited.... the chap who raised him said he'd had an owl from the age of 6 for 30 years....it went everywhere with him and was very intelligent. I thought 'I WANT ONE" but then I thought about having to retrieve it from halfway down Charlie's throat.....

A SELF-LAUNCHING Frisbee too!!!!

Kathie, I love your bird names - especially after you explained their origins!!!!! However, Tindy Lou didn't think it was one bit funny - I don't know what is wrong with that bird's sense of humor.........
