I played a game many suggested with Dex/Kirby tonight. I put a few pieces of food in 2 kongs and hid them. Needless to say this game was a big hit. It's amazing how perfectly behaved Dexter becomes when he sees food (clearly he knows what he should be doing...)
I hid their kongs near the kitchen garbage can the first time. I had to lead them towards them the first time, but wouldn't you know they made a beeline for that spot the second time. I then moved to the upstairs bathroom. It let us work on "stay" and then "ok" (I added a "find it" as a new command). We had to unfortunately cut the game short. Kirby got a little too overstimulated and became slightly aggressive towards Dex (I heard just a single low growl, but I cut the game off there and had a little talk with Kirby). They're all good now - I'll definitely be playing this again, maybe just individually next time

Cali loves this game! I'm glad the boys had so much fun. I can imagine they would get over excited. Once they have the idea, you could really challenge them by having one doodle stay while the other hunts. When the first finds one of the prizes, he goes in to a down stay and the second gets to go. Then swap who goes first. Aren't I mean?

Denver needs a little help with this game as he does not have the lab gift for this..........
Ryder is all lab and so food oriented, that he can find anything that is edible......... |

If you keep it up, you soon won't need "food" involved -- just a good squeaky favorite toy works great.
It's pretty impressive how "alert" they become when you start the game. I give Jazz a hand command to release her to "go find it" and I always get a big JUMP and BARK and she TAKES OFF looking for it. She's worked her way up to a completely dark back bedroom. I yell to her while she's looking to let her know I'm still "waiting". We play TUG with her "HOG" when she brings it to me. (She thinks she's a German Sheperd and has found the drugs.) |

I actually may do better hiding a good toy than food. Kirby sometimes acts a little odd if there is any sort of competition over food (even though Dex is totally submissive to him in this aspect).
Funny story - I was working on making one of them stay and one of them come over Christmas. Dex does fine staying when I tell Kirb to come, but it isn't working well the other way around. Kirby gets all excited and wants to come when I call either of them

I've played this game with Max and Peanut with shredded cheese or bits of pizza crust, however Peanut 10minutes later goes thru every inch of the floor making sure not one miniscule morsel has been left behind

haha! Sounds like a great game to play today! Still too cold and too much snow!
Now I have to find something for ME to do as far as exercise. I exercise every single day in some way, but not that last couple in this frigid blast. HAHA! Maybe I could hide things in the basement and keep running up & down the stairs!
