Jonas has never, ever loved his crate. I'm starting to leave both dogs free in the house when I'm going out for only a couple of hours and so far, so good.
He's in it at night though, right next to my side of the bed. I usually have to physically put him in it. He doesn't complain, but I know he'd rather just sleep on the big dog pillow in our bedroom. SO...last night, he had his last potty call, came inside and plopped down on the doggy pillow as usual. I told my husband we'll just leave him there and if he makes noise in a few hours or is wandering around the room...I'll stick him in his crate then. I was wondering if he'd just stay on the pillow all night or what. SO, at around 2 a.m. I hear him making noises. I can't find him but I know that when I do locate him, he's going in the crate. Don't you know, that's exactly where he was???? He had put himself in there an I think he was making noise to tell me to close the stinkin' door and put the towel over it like usual! I guess he doesn't hate it afterall!! By the way, if you could vote for his pic., I'd appreciate it! http://www.photosforhealth.com/gallery. ... =1&page=66 Six rows from the bottom, brown doggy with blue ball. Do you think I should continue to crate him at night or do you think I should let him sleep on the pillow? I don't want to keep getting woken up at night by him telling me to close his crate door but then again, maybe he'll increase the time he's on the pillow and stay there all night?

Hahahaha....I vote for Jonas at least twice a day Julie...all you have to do is log off the forum and log back on...! He's got quite a few votes..298 right now, and should be hanging proudly on the children's ward wall!!!
I think I'd leave him on his pillow at nite...eventually he'll crawl up on the bed with you and be quiet the rest of the nite!!!

I'm not surprised at all. Dogs are den dwellers and like the cave like feeling of their crate if it is properly introduced. Obviously you've done a great job of crate training. IMHO Jonas has earned your trust. I keep Abby's crate covered all the time with the door open. She's a good Fur Mom as she comes to bed to tuck us in then goes to her crate for the night

Charlie insists on sleeping in his crate too. Wayne actually asks to be put to bed. He comes and finds one of us and "talks" to us until we get up and put him to bed. If he put himself to bed, he'd miss out on his liver treat.
I plan on keeping our dogs in crates forever. They both seem to like it and night time is the one time of day that I don't have to worry about what they are up to. And, YES, I voted for your doodle! Deb
