I was lying in bed reading to try to fall asleep at 1AM. I decided to let Bogart out since I was still awake. He did his double duty, and I was sure he was done for the night.
Well, at 5:30AM, I woke to him rubbing up against the bed and I could hear his feet tapping across the hardwood floors. So, I dragged my tired buns out of bed to let him out. So, here is what he does! (This has nothing to do with freshly fallen snow either. Bogart loves snow but never does this.) He goes outside and immediately dives into the snow and starts rolling around. Stands up, shakes, dives back in and rolls. This goes on for at least 5 minutes! He does this in about 5 different spots in the yard, so it's not like he was trying to pick up the scent of an animal ......and what animal? There were no prints in the snow? So, this morning I slept in. When I got up, my husband told me Bogart had barfed on his bed in his crate. There was a RECEIPT in it......what else is new? Bogart isn't crated, but likes to go in there at night sometimes. I don't think it as the barf either that he wanted to get off of himself. I must add the barf..I hate that word.....really smelled bad! ........and I don't think he got it on him?? I sure hope not, coz he jumped back in bed after all this. Hubby now just gave him a bath. He either smelled from the vomit or from Lord knows what!! What the HECK!!? Why the rolling and stinking??

i was trying to find the right way to say it and here's one from bestfriendspetcare website
Quote:
I was always raised that dogs roll to mask their scent.....so maybe barfing made Bogie want to mask himself? dogs while domesticated still have natural wild instincts in them. Also sometimes DOGS prefer a good roll in the ground at times over say a good back scratch against a wall or from us. they can itch.....max rolls in snow and grass when he's really happy and other times i just think it's instinctual

hmmm...I don't know I have an answer, but last weekend when I took Kirby to the off leash hiking area he started rolling around in a gross pile of leaves. I swear they just love to be dirty/wet.

They sure do, Leslie!
I think annmarie is right. For some reason, the barf wasn't appealing to him. Had to clean the house today from Mr. Stinkpot after his bath.Changed the sheets too........PHEW!! He jumped in bed with that on him!
