Okay, I might need help. Gracie is the first puppy I have ever had. I have always done rescues at about 18 mos old. I know how I would treat this in a grown up dog, but she's still a baby. She'll be 4 mos on Sunday.
Anyway, Gracie had her first real accident in the house last night while we were playing and watching TV, she just peed in the middle of the living room floor. Then she woke me up at 3:45 crying (she has been sleeping through the night for nearly two weeks now), we went out and she peed. An hour later she was crying again. We went out and she had milkshake poo. At 5:45 it was more like diarrhea. At 7:30 she peed again and tried to poo, but I didn't see anything. I tried to collect samples, but because the only one I could really take in happened at 3:45, by the time i got back out with a bag and could find it it had already been sitting around for awhile. I'm thinking parasites, but I don't know. She hasn't really had the opportunity to get into anything and poops were normal last night. She is drinking and very playful. She keeps barking at the boys cuz they don't want to play. She also is demanding breakfast but i am not giving in! If she were full grown I would fast her on water for 12-24 hrs, watch her and then introduce small meals of rice and chicken with pumpkin, yogurt and slippery elm or marshmallow. Gradually returning to normal diet over a few days. But, she's a baby and I'm a new mommy so I'm worried. I am staying home with her today so she can go out more frequently. I will call the vet and see what they think, but I don't want to rush her in if it's something I can take care of. Any thoughts?

That's good that you are staying home. If she doesn't appear lethargic and is drinking water I'd monitor her for the day to see if things improve. You might want to try some boiled c hicken and bland rice for her tummy. Poor Gracie, I hope you feel better soon!

Poor Gracie!!! I think that your plan is a good one. Today when you take her out take out a bag with you everytime so if she goes poo you can get a sample quick and take it in just to make sure there are no parasites. A lot of new puppies get worms after coming home.
Feel better soon Gracie!! |

Luckily I was able to get in contact with my vet before she was swamped for the day. She advised me to do everything that I thought I should. I will try to get a sample when things firm up to get checked locally and made an appointment for Gracie to go in to se her for a regular visit. If the stool sample comes back positive she will advise me what to do or we will see a local vet. We see an awesome holistic vet that is an hour away. It takes forever to get into see her sometimes but she is great at helping me through the small stuff on my own.. We are scheduled for January 26.
I will keep you all posted on her progress. Thank you for your support!

Poor baby........
When was the last deworming??????????? Wishing her a speedy recovery and glad you are going to the vet............ went through this with Ryder a week a go and it was doggy flu according to vet , his poops are still not solid enough for me, but they are getting better and they told me to wait and see and they dewormed him again.............. |

Well, I am glad I stayed home. A couple of hours ago Gracie puked up what appeared to be, upon dissection, a bunch of stuffing from her toys.
I left a message for the vet and will still take in a poop sample to be tested for parasites. She was wormed for the last time a couple days after I brought her home. I am cooking her dinner now and if she keeps it down I am pretty sure she will be okay. Keeps your paws crossed! I will update again tonight.

First tiny dinner of chicken, rice, pumpkin, slippery elm and probiotics is staying down. Poor baby is soooo hungry. She gets another small meal at 7 and again at 9. Talked to vet again. She thinks things are going to be just fine, but i need to continue to watch her and continue with slippery elm and probiotics for a week or two. All stuffed animals are currently put up. I have no idea how she got that much stuffing in her tummy! Very little is missing from any of the animals and I always watch her with them. I am very relieved! and glad I decided to stay home. Even though there was no more diarrhea I would have missed the puking and she would have eaten it up again. I wonder if she has done that before while I was a t work?
