Ollie had a mild eye infection (in fact the vet said it was more of an eye irritation) last week as a result of having his hair too long around his eys and I guess we were not cleaning the guck often enough. Anyway, there is no more guck and he has done 5 day course of eye cream. Ollie is still rubbing his face on the couch as if he is scratching his eyes. They look cleared up, but I am concerned about allergies an d stuff. Is it possible that the rubbing his eyes against the couch all the time is an allergy? Does anyone else have this happen?

My dogs rub against the bed and the wall...yeah, I am happy to have the dog dirt along the hallway...
Since you had an issue with eyes, just keep watch over him...look for redness, weaping, goopy, stuff like that...my standard Poodle often has eye irritation so we use saline solution and squirt it directly into his eye...he likes it (at first it scared him) because it soothes his eyes if they have irritants in them...and if they get goopy I use eye antibiotics. Mostly I think it is just because they get dust in their eyes (and hair)...but if it keeps up, you might want to see an eye specialist (yep, they have canine eye specialists....you can find them on the CERF site) because your dog might have entropian eyelids or hair that grows into the eye. |
