Any of you have experience with you dogs foot pads being cut? or cracking?
Yesterday morning, Della came in with a bloody foot print on her back... it came from Lucas' from foot, there is a big crack in his foot pad. I cleaned it up and stopped the bleeding and even put some neosporin on the crack... So he seems to be healing, though his limp is pitiful and cute all at the same time... Della doesn't seem to have any crack on her foot pads, Lucas has a couple... any thoughts?

You can always try "Bag Balm" - my husband uses it for severely dry hands in the winter and it works wonders. It's petroleum based so I'd put it on at night when he goes to bed.

Buddy cut his paw on something someone threw in our yard one time. I did basically what you did and he healed rather quickly. He has not had a problem since. Was it a cracked paw or could he have gotten a scrape or cut somehow? If bag balm is like the moo cream you can get at wal-mart it works great for cracked paws. I had a chow lab mix that always had cracked paws and I put that on her every night. Good luck.

I thought it was a cut at first, but I think it really is a crack... like cracked skin in the winter... maybe started to crack and that with hard running he split it open? I am going to keep and eye on his feet... but wasn't sure if others had gone through anything similar?

Jenny, I just bought some Paw Balm from Only Natural Pet -- it comes in a deodorant-like stick, so it is really easy to put on. I think it is more of a preventative than a cure and it is petroleum free so things don't get greasy. It smells pretty nice too, I think!

Paw cuts heal rather quickly. I had a dog that had a nasty cut on his paw. I was tossing a ball on a concrete floor and he would come to a skidding stop and low and behold he had a nasty road rash fairly deep. I laid off of the walk for few days. There is a tape out there you can put on and it comes off rather easily. Dogs do very well taking care of small injuries as these by licking them.

I bought some online for Boo when his feet were getting some iffy-looking cracks. Its a liquid, smells like vanilla (yum), and doesn't seem to sting (I tried some on myself, heehee). You put a few drops on each paw pad and it absorbs right away, but you need to give it a few minutes to dry (unless you want Lucas-shaped paw prints all over your floors.) I applied it to Boo's paws outside or on a towel. Bag Balm is good too, but Boo was slip-sliding on the hardwood floors, so the Tuf Foot (not greasy) worked better for us. Hope his paw heals soon!
