Default Importance of sanitary cuts! (warning gross!)

It's funny that so many have commented on how fluffy Rumor is right now. He's been looking so great and curly lately. I've been bad Daddy and haven't been doing a lot of overall brushing, and since it's been so cold, it's been a while since a bath. I was busy all weekend dog sitting for a friend and noticed yesterday that Rumor was having a hard time pooping. For some reason, Miko and Jonah always try to play with Rumor when he's trying to poop. This usually makes him stop and try again at a later time. Yesterday and today, he kept trying and trying to what looked like no success. I was getting ready to make a post on doggy constipation (I know, with doodles....UNHEARD of), when I decided to check with a puppy wipe to see if there was another reason.......BOW HOWDY was there. I removed what looked like 3 days worth of poop! , and a massive matt!! So off to the bath for a soak. I had to cut out the icky poopy mass and gave him a quick scissoring around his hiney. Since he's so thin (vet says perfect), his butthole is sunken in. Tomorrow after work I'll take the clippers to him. You may wonder why I smelt nothing?? I have a horrible cold and can smell nothing, let alone breathe through my nose!

So, those of you with curly doodles especially......please check their hineys to male sure they have a clear "exit". Rumor is soooooooo happy now....he won't leave my lap!!

Oh, I can't tell you how many times I have had to do the bath soak, unclog...ugh!
I have used sissors too...but anyone thinking of sissors...BE CAREFUL! It is soooooooo easy to clip skin there...yeeooow!

I read on a post somewhere that if you put vasaline on the hair surrounding that poop chute that it helps...I plan to do this with my next litter...and it wouldn't hurt on those curly butts too!

Sorry that Rumor had to go through that...you too, for that matter...but thanks for sharing!

Rumor was telling me he had to go outside again.......pooped immediately, and I really think the look on his face afterwards said "Thanks Dad"!!

Oh, Gene! I can't imagine not noticing! I guess with a house full of dogs and a stuffy nose, anything is possible! Thanks for the great description. I'm glad Rumor is in better shape now. LOL!

Yep! Something similar, but not as bad happened with Bogart. YIKES!
You had perfect timing for a cold, though!
Bogart is getting groomed tomorrow and she already asked me if I wanted the poop chute done........YEP I DO! Now more than ever after this story!!
Glad you feel better Rumor!!

poor Rumor! I am glad T always has a clear bottom! We picked her hoping she would have a more lab coat and she does.

Yep, that is the beauty of F1 coats!
Can you just imagine how long coated dogs would get along without humans? Really...I wonder sometimes. Hmmm...maybe there would not be long coated dogs without humans...(nature isn't that silly!)

Jac,
That was quite philosophical on a late Sunday night! I am sitting here agreeing with you!

It did not take long for me to trim Henry's private areas...He constantly had little dingleberries hanging from his butt, He normally walks around with his tail up in the air and I don't want everyone to see big ol dingleberries hanging..So, After I gave him a bath one Saturday I took an old beard trimmer and gave him a quick trimming...Worked out well and it is hard to cut flesh with them...I am sure he appreciated it, although he did not take to kindly to the whole thing.

He also had this long bit of hair hanging from his male part, Everytime he would urinate it would get soaked and then if he climbed on you, well, you get the idea....So I trimmed it too...not too close though...just enough to help him maintain good hygiene.

yea, its kinda gross but it is better than them climbing on you after they go potty and getting YUCK all over you or your furniture...

OMG poor Rumor but thank you for a good laugh... This post is too much.

I have to check out Kirby - he's not a fan of getting cut and I need to make sure his chute is open too.
