We take Cody to the groomer every 6-8 weeks depending on his scruffiness. He may get bathed once or so inbetween grooming appointments if he starts smelling like 'dog' too strongly. My DH just pops him in the tub and uses our detachable shower head to wet him down and rinse him off.

I have a really hard time keeping Ozzy clean with his lighter colored coat. With the weather being rainy and the ground by our house is very soggy I can't keep him clean, I don't want to give him to many baths, but I can't let him go around the house dirty.
Any suggestions on what I should do? I was thinking some dog shoes would be great for keeping his paws clean, but I don't know if he would like them, or even where to get them. HELP!!!

I have to fight with myself about not
bathing them once a week!!! If they are really dirty at two weeks, I give in and go ahead and bathe them..... I just make sure to rinse really well..... but most of the time, I try to hold out for once a month. In the mud yesterday.....and very warm 82 degrees, I washed feet with the hose outside and dried them with an old towel....afterwards wiping off their whole body with the by-then--damp towel, too!! They were OK clean.... A real bath is coming soon though. And it has only been 2 weeks since the last one. If it were cold outside yesterday, like it is today.... I bet they would have had to be carried to the tub and bathed. There was too much mud!

Once a month for Ozzie. He likes the tub better than the shower. When it gets warm enough I'll get him used to the garden hose. Nice thing about the New Mexico climate is the dog dries in minutes.

Sam got two baths this month as he was itchy and the great pet store down the street rold us he was probably dry from the winter weather and also because he hadn't been on quality food before we got him. they gave us some really great Tea Tree and Oatmeal shampoo that has helped with the itching...

Tyke seems to be able to stay clean only about 2 weeks she usually ends up gettin one bath from me, and one at the goomers- she goes to the groomer about once a month, mainly to keep her ears clean - I can do the weekly ear cleaning, but when it comes to pulling those hairs out.....I have to draw the line! It seems like with us camping and doing so many outdoor things that she gets dirty a lot quicker. Our groomer bathes her with an oatmeal and tea tree oil shampoo, and it seems to keep the itchiness down. I also wash her face about once a week with no tear puppy shampoo - she LOVES to dig and stick her face down in the dirt! Other than that, I try to give her a good brushing just before bedtime each night - it relaxes her and makes her sleepy, and keeps the dirt out of my bed!!

Thanks for the information. At 8 mos. Eloise has had three baths. The first two were really stressful for her because she was frightened. My main concern is stripping out the natural oils from her silky fine coat. It seems that oatmeal and tea tree shampoo about once a month is good. She gets brushed daily or at least two days to keep the tangles out. She likes to dig and play in the mud but it seems to just fall off when it dries. A quick brush and it’s gone. She doesn’t smell bad even when wet. I bury my nose in her hair all the time and she has a sent but it’s very mild and not unpleasant. Now after six weeks without a bath she smells like the smell of a vacuum cleaner when it’s working.
