I have an 18mo F1B labradoodle named Riley. She is such a sweetie pie and loves to cuddle and play with people she is familiar with. But when we go out in public or when people come to our house, she is very hesitant to meet them. Usually she goes over, nudges them with her nose (she nudges a lot) and jumps around and avoids them touching her.
She has been like this since she was a little puppy and she is getting better now (she is better when she has her harness on too). We want everyone to see what a cute puppy she is and of course, everyone wants to touch her soft hair. She loves loves loves dogs but doesn't like people. However, she does seem to know the difference between dog owners and labradoodle owners I have heard other doodle owners say that their doodles are the same way. Wondering if you have any advice? We socialize her a lot too, she goes everywhere with us. Thanks

Eloise was much the same way. She was afraid of strangers and dogs she hasn’t met before. It’s an issue when we go for a walk. When she was approached by other dogs she would jump and jerk and fight to get away. Sometimes she would growl out of fear. We took her to a puppy training class, not for the training but for the socialization. That helped a lot. Now at 81/2 months, she is ok with people we let into the house. We can take her to a dog park where she can run and be with other dogs. At first she is a little frightened and runs from other dogs but soon settles down and starts to play. I don’t really like dog parks but it is helping her. On walks if she starts acting up when a strange dog comes near I make her sit and stay beside me. As long as the dog doesn’t get too close she is fine and getting better.

Juneau loves to meet people on his own terms, he'll go up to them and smell them and check them out, but as soon as that person moves to touch him, he's outta there. At times he does these little woofs as if telling that person to stay away.
Juneau has been going to OB classes since he was 3 months (well, back then they were just socialization classes) and he's almost 17 months now. He's fine with meeting new people (and letting them touch him) while at class and on walks, but if we go to someone's house or they come to ours that's a whole different story. He's starting to get better, but we've learnt that he usually just needs about 5 minutes to get a sense of where he is and who's around him and then he starts to settle down.

Malcolm wants to meet every person and dog he sees. No matter the setting. He's a mini doodle now almost 9 months old. He's been going to obedience classes as well and I'm currently teaching him to "say hello"...to try and keep him a little more calm when meeting people
I will say that when we went to my cousin's house for the big family Christmas morning brunch thing he was VERY calm and civilized, which surprised me. It was his first time there and there were little kids and stuff. I kept him on leash, but he didn't really try to jump on anyone at all (except Aunt Rita who visits us often so he knows her well). |

Toby s friendly with just about any dog..he ll want to play until the other dogs says otherwise..
but, with people he seems more indifferent unless i lead him up to them..he ll sit, then raise a paw..if they take it then he s their friend.. |
